I've never read this until now. Wow. What an honest, frank account of your experiences, Tom. Our profession needs more of this kind of openness and vulnerability.
We have shaped much of our approach to managing behaviour around @tombennett71's Running the Room. It was a key text for us several years ago and underpins much of our work today.
We also met Tom at researchED in September. His response? “Ah, you're the cake people!” Yep, that's us 😂
Thanks for resharing this. It's a reassuring reminder to keep doing less, better (our favourite mantra, thanks to @MaryMyatt) and, perhaps more importantly, to hold firm to the hard-fought decisions we've made over the last five years. Thanks! Cass

A behaviour perspective. teacherhead.com/2024/04/02/a… via @teacherhead. Occasionally re-read this to keep myself grounded. Admitting mistakes is painful. I made too many. I hope there are good lessons for people here.
💯 Simon! 3 generations of one family, 2 of another - it’s defo a family affair here at Lingfield. Thanks as always to @HannahvWestern who pulls together all the pics and vids for our reels. ❤️
We bloody smashed it! Thanks to our teachers, TAs, governors, husbands and kids who gave up their Saturday to do this…🙌
Happy MAD Day!
No, not what you think...It's Make a Difference Day 🥳
Today, the Lingfield Team will be in school unpacking, sorting, moving and building all the new resources and learning spaces for our LEAP (Learn, Explore, Adventure, Play) into Lunchtimes school priority.
Let's crack on!
Thanks so much Ben!
We’re planning on sharing more of our classroom practice, agreed consistencies and general life at Lingfield as we continue to work on our school priority - Purposeful Pedagogy - watch this space! Cass
This week's @DurringResearch round up has a great blog from deputy director Jody Chan on accountable talk, entries from EEF/RS colleagues at @GlosResearchSch on inclusion. Plus another entry for @theeducakers sharing great videos of their day-to-day practice:
A really valuable day with the @ReachFND creating some much-needed headspace to reflect on our school and community.
A big focus for us was transition: from nursery into our school, and from Year 6 into our main secondary school. It was a great opportunity to think beyond our current transition events and consider how we can create greater coherence across phases.
We've got some plans already in the pipeline we just now need to get diaries together. Exciting times!
Thanks @jon_hutchinson_ @edvainker for a thought provoking day.

Thank you @New_Old_Paul @nsachdeva2019 really looking forward to reading this!
Pod fans will be delighted to know this week’s episode taps into their knowledge and expertise on this. A great nerd fest!
Thanks, @BenRiceTeach, lots more to share linked to our SDP - Purposeful Pedagogy - coming soon.
Hopefully, my tech skills will improve along the way! Cass
I read this short blog from @adamboxer1 and couldn’t agree more, so I thought I’d share a few simple examples of what this can look like in Primary too.
All too often, Heads I speak to are buried under admin, operational demands or firefighting. Teaching and learning, and the strategic thinking it demands, can quickly become the thing we get to when everything else is done.
I absolutely feel that pressure too. But I’m determined not to let that become the job. It’s not why I became a Head, and I don’t want Anna to think that’s what headship has to be either.
It's all about culture and capacity. Being clear about what matters most. Developing the expertise of the people around you. Creating routines, systems and agreed ways of working so that good practice is simply the norm.
It’s easier said than done, but in this profession there will always be noise. Part of leadership is knowing when to turn down the volume and protect time for the things that make the biggest difference.
So, nothing polished or staged here - just a sneaky peek into a Y3, Y4 and Y6 class, plus transitions around the school. Everyday examples of clear routines and shared expectations becoming simply how we do things.
Still plenty to learn and improve, but for us, this is the work. Thanks for sharing a simple but essential message, Adam.

There are a number of theories that underpin this blog:
1. There are problems in the education system
2. At least some of those problems can be solved not through grand ideas, but by improving the quality of teaching in schools.
3. A core component of better teaching is better behaviour.
4. There are lots of classrooms where behaviour isn't good enough.
5. We should fix that first.
What are your thoughts?
Do read the blog, and share if you enjoyed :)
We agree, Simon, it's great to work with Kenny!
Hope you had an awesome day. Cass
@Southgloshead @KennyInclusion
Great to have @KennyInclusion as the keynote speaker at the @trust_leaf Inclusion conference today, talking on the theme of the strategic SENDCO. Plus everyone got a free book to take home 📕! @BloomsburyEd
Following our exciting morning, Anna and I got down to serious business...
MINCE PIE SEASON HAS STARTED 🙌 🥧😋
Thanks @Mrs_LPrimary for supplying the first box 😘
Such a lovely morning with Cheryl and Hayley from @bearwoodprimary, who made the trip from Poole to spend the morning with us at Lingfield.
We talked all things Primary Leadership, toured the school and popped into our Specialist Provision, The Willows, along the way.
It was a pleasure hearing about their professional journey, discussing school priorities and sharing our top tips for sustainable school improvement when budgets continue to be stretched.
We also talked about the importance of whole-school alignment, the power of clear routines, consistency and a culture where the way we do things is visible in the everyday.
Lots of shared thinking, practical ideas and good conversation all topped off, as every good school visit should be, with cake and a cuppa! ☕🍰
Happy two sleeps until Traitors Tuesday 🥳 Cass

🤔 Creating a sustainable school culture and effective leadership team
🤔 All things curriculum design, teaching and learning
🤔 Continuous provision in KS1
🤔 SEND, or closing the gap for disadvantaged pupils
🤔 Entrepreneurialism and making £££
We’re always keen to share ideas, show you what has worked here (and what hasn't) and help turn your thinking into practice.

Had some lovely feedback on various platforms about this Mini -Whiteboards blog, so if you missed it coming out on Friday, here it is...
It's been nearly a year since I last published a blog about Mini-Whiteboards and how I feel about them. Since then, as a school, we have done lots of work on routines around our use of MWBs. Have a read of my 2.0 blog to see our Agreed Consistencies around this brilliant classroom tool.
Thanks to @Mr_Raichura for some of the new inspiration around our routines.
