Well, it’s official: I have been promoted to full Professor @ucl I am well aware of what this means; that as a Black Woman I am one of a few. To the students over the years who told me it meant the world to see me at the front of a room- I am still here.

I have been working closely with Prof Rochelle Burgess @thewrittenro , over the years on mental health and #childmarriage, a critical health issues impacting young women and girls.
Hope we can build on insights as #Zimbabwe reviews the #MentalHealth Act, and as we commemorate the 1st International Day on Eliminating Child Marriage on 27th Nov 2027.

Today I join the world in celebrating the International Day of the Girl.
Behind every girl, I see my own story and that of millions around the world.
Let's step up our actions to end child marriage, invest in education, health and wellbeing for girls.
I am pleased that through the years my work with RMT led to the building a community movement for girls through the #Nhangas, the community girls soccer tournaments, the education assistance programs.
The years of service as @_AfricanUnion Goodwill Ambassador on Ending Child marriage, I the work with traditional leaders developing by laws, establishing COTLA as well as advancing the continental normative standards on rights of women and girls.
I am excited that through UN Women, we sustain the work through the recently launched Young Women and Girls strategy.
Let's sustain the pace, every action counts

Worth listening.
UN resolution declared the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity.
This is includes the massive violence and sexual abuse and rape that women experienced. The story should continue to be told

In Accra, Ghana, I joined President John Dramani Mahama @JDMahama and leaders from Africa, the Caribbean and the diaspora for the High-Level Consultative Conference on reparatory justice, following the historic United Nations resolution on the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement.
For Barbados, this moment reaches deep. Our colonial legislature gave the world the 1661 Slave Code, a law that helped strip African people of dignity by treating them as chattel, property, less than human. That wrong was known then. It must be answered now.
I stood there on behalf of Barbados and the Caribbean, clear that our duty is repair, healing and unity. Ghana called the world to freedom almost seventy years ago. Today, it calls us again to help ensure that the children of Africa and its diaspora inherit dignity, prosperity and peace.

Lots of talk about Black British culture today.
Just a polite reminder that @TheVoiceNews has been documenting that culture for 40+ years. 📰✊🏾

A reminder that Yves Sakila was killed in Ireland just a few weeks ago. Nobody has been arrested. The family have had to push for second postmortem because the first came back inconclusive.

British army veteran Hetticia & her husband Vanderbilt who lost their citizenship due to the Home Office have been battling 5 years for compensation
Now in their 70s they say that ‘when the Home office is ticking their boxes, they don’t realise they’re ticking our lives away’
Has society forgotten that the dream for better health is the same as the dream for social justice?
Today we announced a new @TheLancet Commission on Activsm & health, chaired by myself, @vanyaradzayi and Jennie Gamlin. I am beyond excited. Read more👇🏾

Less than two years ago, black and Asian people were being hunted in the streets. Attacked for the colour of our skin. I haven't gotten over it. Have you?
I cannot believe this wasn’t already happening. And also, I can believe it.
This is long overdue.
It also needs to be ongoing and widespread. Now, "Black women are three times more likely to die at childbirth. Black babies are twice as likely to be stillborn."

🚨Three Flemish universities jointly award an honorary doctorate—for the first time—to Italian jurist @FranceskAlbs , recognizing her work on human rights and international justice.
The ceremony in Antwerp drew over 1,000 attendees.
Everytime I think it’s time to leave academia (for all the reasons you could imagine), I either meet a bad ass senior female prof who reminds me why we matter, or a student emails to tell how something I wrote made them feel seen.
It’s important to tell people they matter.

A catastrophic landslide at the Rubaya coltan mine in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has killed more than 200 people, including approximately 70 children, as reported by the country’s mining ministry on 4–5 March 2026. The disaster, triggered by days of torrential rainfall, struck the rebel-controlled site located about 70 kilometres west of Goma in North Kivu province.

THIS is why people lose faith in the academy. It is a place of violence and erasure as much as anything else. I am gutted to see this - but not surprised - as @Jairo_I_Funez activism for Palestine and against all kinds of violence has never wavered. Solidarity my friend.
