30 local ballot measures to restrict data center construction. 29 of them leading. Non-binding, sure. But Texas alone is ~25% of the data centers coming online through 2030, and its September moratorium may not get lifted now. We modeled AI capex as a chip problem. The binding constraint might be a zoning board ⚡🤖

US nowcast flip, per one model: Rising-growth odds: 22% early Oct → 41% now. Rising-inflation odds: 58% on Oct 28 → 27% a week later. All three drivers listed are energy: Brent $118 → $104 in two sessions, freight and refining premiums rolling over, last year's spike leaving the base. A regime model leaning on oil is an oil model with extra steps…🔮

Treasury's plan: $850B cash by year-end. $1T by end of March. $800B net borrowing in Q1. Cash parked in Treasury's account at the Fed is cash that isn't sitting in the banking system. Liquidity isn't a mood. It's a balance you can track every day 📉

Oil bounces only modestly after US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island, after a 7.6% fall Brent regained only a small part of Monday's diplomacy-driven drop, as traders weigh a limited strike against talks that have not been called off.

Oil isn't just barrels. It's barrels + freight + insurance. Physical market looks balanced. Middle East shipping costs are rolling over. Crack spreads are down too. If part of the price was the cost of getting the barrel there safely, that part can leave fast. Watch the freight, not the headlines…🛢️

Cheaper tokens don't shrink the AI bill. They grow it. Price per token falls, usage explodes, total compute spend goes up. That's Jevons. Now Elon says the cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high vs revenue. Demand isn't the problem. Unit economics are. Watch gross margin per token, not user count…🤖

AI just had its 7th-largest selloff in two years. After a 500%+ run since @ChatGPT launched. All-time high was Oct 6. Meanwhile breadth sits at the 0th percentile of its own history, and 8 of 11 sector ETFs price more vol for the next month than the next three. When one theme carries the whole index, its selloff is everyone's selloff…📉

$TLT 25-delta skew just flipped. Calls now trade 1.4 vol points over puts, after a year of the opposite. Translation: people are paying more to own a bond rally than to protect against a selloff. That's a growth-scare hedge, not a rates call. And when everyone buys the same hedge, it gets expensive. The best hedge is usually the one nobody's crowding into yet…🧠

Oct 29: $558m of crypto longs liquidated. $5m of shorts. Now the "hacks are buying opportunities" takes are out. Maybe. But buy-the-hack is a crowd too. If everyone waits for the same dip, the dip goes to whoever is forced to sell, not whoever has the best opinion 🌊

Solid quarters. Stocks down anyway. When hedge funds all hide in the same 7 names to dodge AI risk, the hiding spot becomes the crowded trade. Good earnings need a new buyer. If everyone who wanted it already owns it, there’s nobody left to surprise.

Overnight rates priced at 3.99 into month-end. Reserves ~$2.9T, below the $3T line that has mattered. Bills still being issued. Funding stress never shows up in the $SPY first. It shows up in repo on the last day of the month. Watch who taps the Fed's repo facility, not the headlines.

Jane Street built a card game to teach trading. Four minutes. Read the table, value the cards, decide what you'd pay. The real lesson: every bid you see could come from someone who knows more than you. Price the card. Then price who's selling it. Backtests only ever do step one…🧮

22 of the 30 most-traded single stocks: 30d implied vol above 90d. $AMZN +20%. $PLTR +18%. $CRWV +16%. An inverted vol term structure means the market is paying up for the next month, not the next quarter. Mid earnings season, that's mostly a calendar, not a crash signal. Price the event, not the panic.

bitcoin:native, next 10 years: @jpmorgan: ~10% CAGR. Another research desk: 34.3% p.a. to 2036. Same asset. 3x gap. Every forecast is also a move in a game. A bank guards its credibility, a bull guards its thesis. Read the forecaster before the forecast. Then size like nobody knows…🔮

$XLC momentum at -72. Down 2.2σ on the week. Extreme readings feel like signals. Often they're just the tail of a distribution you forgot was fat. Condition on regime before you fade it…🧮

Everyone argues GPUs vs models. The AI stack keeps choking on memory bandwidth. Most large training and inference jobs hit the memory wall long before the compute wall. The bottleneck gets the margin…🧠

New Fed chair. One week before the midterms. Hiking now would be expensive. That's exactly what would make it credible. Cheap talk is free. Costly signals reprice curves. The market is pricing whether he wants to be liked or believed.

China: ~63M cars of capacity. Global market ~85M. Why? Every province backs its own champion. Individually rational. Collectively a glut. A prisoner's dilemma paid for with cheap land and local bank loans, and the rest of the world eats the payoff…🌊

For US equities to beat TIPS over the next decade you need record multiples to hold for another 10 years, or earnings growth seen twice since 1880. Everyone has seen the chart. Nobody wants to sell first. Valuation isn't a timing signal. It's a coordination problem…🔮

27 winning months out of 28. The Sharpe looked incredible. Then month 28 took the house and the college fund for the kids. Selling far OTM calls isn't alpha. It's a tail you haven't been billed for yet. Your backtest just never sampled the invoice…🧮
