What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Patrick Stewart had a huge impact on me when I was growing up. I loved Star Trek and I still do. Sometimes it’s hard to know where Picard ends and he begins. But it’s a profound sense of humanity and humanism that unites both of them. Both the actor and the character are giants.

Great news: the Government has confirmed it will help us finally bring cross-channel rail services to Stratford International, making it truly international for the first time. Huge opportunities for jobs, investment and tourism, and - crucially - bringing us closer to Europe.

Be in no doubt this is the biggest leap forward for devolution since the creation of the Greater London Authority in 2000. It gives London more control over own own destiny. This includes the ability to fund the transport projects we need to boost housing delivery.

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.
