Obama: "That’s a misalignment between what our society needs and the commercial imperatives that these companies are facing" Translation: What society needs is not what people want. What society needs is what I say it needs.

Spain economy "grows" due to immigration & rapid population growth, but real gdp per head has been flat for 20y+. No construction is allowed, so home prices & rents are totally unaffordable. Sure, immigrants live better, but for the local youth this system is an economic DISASTER

Everybody screamed inflation when tariffs were coming in. What about now when they are paid back? Great chart by @charliebilello

The reasons US life expectancy is lower have nothing to do with the quality of healthcare in the US, which is excellent. I know well the "free and universal" health systems of Spain and the UK, both higher lufe expectancy, and they totally SUCK compared with the US. Big time.

One of the best things about living in the US is medical care. It is way better than in any European country by a lot. No wait times, more tests, more technology, everything is better. Expensive? Yes. But the vast majority can afford it. I'd never trade it for a European system.

We are all at the apex of an un-interrupted chain of life & reproduction success from self-replicating molecules, to bacteria, fish, land animals and us. The chain was never broken, for 4 billion years. But the chain has innumerable dead and forgotten branches.

McKenzie didnt make the world a better place. Bezos did the world a better place creating Amazon. McKenzie just used the resources of his ex-husband for feel-good pet projects and still didn't achieve anything, other than inceasing crime by financing far-left DA elections.

Prediction markets are useful for society for the same reason financial markets are useful. They aggregate collective knowledge and information on prediction of future events. They must be based in economic reward or they won't work. Paying interest on money was banned too once.

Depending how you look at it, the fertility rate is a disaster or its evolution and we are culling normie & selfish genes from humanity's gene pool. I did my part, my genes are going to be over-represneted in the next generation.

2036 is "never". You can't plan that long term. If you can't do something in 2y there is no reason to believe you can do it, ever. It's just a scheme to keep money flowing, a project which will be scrapped in due time.

NY Magazine writers are not part of the gifted, clearly. nitter.cf/i/status/2065127209929…
Gifted and Talented, or G&T, programs have long been a perennial subject of debate, particularly in New York City, where it has bedeviled mayors for years. Some parents have already washed their hands of the whole G&T business, refusing to participate in what they view as a corrupt system of segregation. But countless others still place significant stock in the G&T designation and what it offers and are comfortable relying on cognitive testing, should it be required, to determine whether a child qualifies. “When your intelligence is the foundation of your self-perception, failing to achieve feels like soul death,” writes Katie Arnold-Ratliff. But if the limited amount of information we have about gifted kids long-term is any indication, most lead, at best, ordinary lives of modest accomplishment. A 35-year study of 677 gifted children found that by age 50, only 12.3 percent had reached a level of “eminence,” defined as “full professors … Fortune 500 executives … judges and lawyers, leaders in biomedicine, award-winning journalists and writers.” This means 88 percent never did. Arnold-Ratliff digs into the myth of the gifted child, and how our notions of intelligence may be inherently flawed: nymag.visitlink.me/9mc2Wh

The study defines eminence as accomplishing "something rare" like becoming full professors at research universities or Fortune 500 executives; 12.3% of gifted participants achieved it, far exceeding general population rates. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC64…
