The shape of that tail has changed over time. Scientists are continuing to study this material and how it moves in space, in order to better understand the asteroid.

A very early and preliminary version of Europa image PJ45_1 obtained by @NASAJuno earlier today (Sept 29, 2022). This shouldn't be very far from Europa's true color; I expect to improve the color later with more careful processing though. North is up.

Less than an hour away, a now autonomous NASA DART is processing its own images to steer itself into asteroid Dimorphos.
Just a couple of hours until we smash the spacecraft into the smaller asteroid so we can watch the impacts of its new orbit on the bigger asteroid (📸: @DLR_next)
