SFI - Today the EFRA Select Committee had the Minister for Farming before us and I challenged him on what happened with SFI window 2 and how the “shambles” unfolded. It was just not good enough - to open a scheme when the department knew many would fail was unfair.

Please do a careful before-and-after survey of all the wildlife so we can see if this works.
The government is funding one of England's biggest land purchases for nature.
£1.94 million to secure the future of The Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. @WildlifeTrusts will manage the estate for nature recovery.

So a stunningly beautiful landscape, rich in wildlife after being superbly managed for centuries, is now nationalised.
Let's see a before-and-after record of Rothbury's wildlife: will curlews, red grouse, merlins etc increase or decrease?
Why not buy up the grim, sterile, dark, ecologically impoverished, alien sitka forest of Harwood next door and turn it back into healthy moorland?

If nothing changes in SFI funding, we can kiss goodbye to any chance of delivering on the 25 year environment plan

New work @WildlifeTrusts shows England’s nature-friendly farming schemes are chronically underfunded
If doesn't change, food, farm & ecosystem crises accelerate
£ is short but it's vital

Just imagine if the gov supported its home producers to produce, we could quite possibly not need to be telling people to stock the shelves up in their homes. It’s 2026 and the penny is starting to drop about food security, but the answer is, stock up your shelves 🥫🥫
I understand we can’t produce everything be heck we can produce a lot more than we do.

#ecology reports are bought and sold and false information is the only way ecologists keep their jobs when will we see independent government ecology to save our countryside from the big conglomerates ??? @DefraGovUK @angelaeagle @_RobbieMoore @amcarmichaelMP @CPRE @suffolkwildlife @NaturalEngland @Feargal_Sharkey @Gameandwildlife @TrooperSnooks
My late Dad was interviewed by & spent half a day with Paul Heiney & a small film crew for Countrywise in 2013. He was billed as Britain’s oldest working farmer which was completely untrue! I think he was a little bit more gentle with him than old Oliver!! Abs bricking it here!😂
With the late, great Oliver Reed currently wowing 2026 audiences all over again with his incredible performance in the restored version of Ken Russell’s ‘The Devils’, I wanted to share this amazing clip of him from 1985.
The rather low-res clip comes from ‘In at the Deep End’, a BBC series in which presenter Paul Heiney tries his hands at a profession he had zero experience in. For this episode, Heiney was preparing for an acting role opposite Michael Caine in ‘Water’ and went to Oliver Reed for some pointers on how to play a villain.
Please enjoy what happens next.

Today, I successfully opened a packet of ham from the corner marked "open here".
I don’t want to overstate this, but I may have peaked in my life's achievements...
A ‘little’ failure job here I used to think nothing about & now,the next morning,my old knackered hip is absolutely killing me,all caused by one stupid little awkward lamb that I had to leave cos it disappeared on me.I can’t do rough terrain now & felt like I was going to fall.😩
They have literally done the complete opposite of making sure that funding has gone to as many farmers as possible! This dork seems to be bragging that one fifth of farmers have got into a scheme!! 🤪🙄 This government seriously needs to speed the next window up with more funds.

British farming is on the brink of total collapse, and I am utterly fed up of the champions league bullshitting we get from politicians and civil servants.
I outlined to the head of DEFRA exactly why SO many farmers are SO furious with how we are being treated.
Come on government;it really isn’t rocket science! How are you going to to meet any sort of environmental targets without making the required & necessary funds available so all farmers who wish to participate can do so & it should be able to be done at leisure without a scramble!
