It's pretty insane how there's a right-wing discourse in the United States that London is collapsing and unsafe. Crossrail alone feels like Star Trek compared to anything in New York. The London Underground has been modernized. Street infrastructure is better. And there's significantly less gun violence.
Real legacy achievement this and Khan deserves real kudos for cutting through everything to get here.

We need a hardline crackdown on antisocial behaviour. A simple way to make decent people's lives tangibly better and stop giving permission to flout social norms that spurs on things even worse.
Look at this so-called first-class passenger with his feet up on the seat — total lack of respect. The "ticket inspector" didn’t even bother checking their tickets, just stood there saying and doing nothing. Completely useless. Guess it wasn’t worth the hassle, much like some of the security guards you see.

This is, by far, the greatest moment of presidential oratory that has ever happened in my lifetime. The fact that it was largely off-the-cuff is incredible. Still gives me chills & brings a tear to my eye 25 years later. God bless America.

Sacramento security guard Joseph Ferguson completes a 24-hour rampage that left five people dead, then ends his own life. In a disturbing video message, Ferguson said the slayings ‘should be good enough to last about a week on the news.’

I watched the first episode of Jonathan Meades' 'Abroad in Britain' last night, and thought pretty much straight away, why is the BBC no longer capable of making programming like this? It's 36 years old, but still whips along beautifully in its editing, music and 'Meades'

Tottenham have now lost more league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Arsenal have at the Emirates. Tottenham moved into their new stadium 13 years after Arsenal did🤯
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is demonstrably untrue as of 30/08/2026. Arsenal have lost 50 of their 381 league matches at the Emirates (13.1%), while yesterday’s defeat took Spurs to 49 losses in 139 league matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (35.3%). Stats account confirms: x.com/scotlandscoeff…

12 months, 3 albums.
6 August 1965. The Beatles released Help! their 5th studio album in the UK. The album included the UK and US No 1 singles Help! and Ticket to Ride. The album also includes Yesterday, the most covered Beatles song of all and a US No 1 hit.

This is superb. Sinn Fein MEP scolds the European parliament for not providing interpreters to let her speak in Irish. She's told that the Irish interpreters are present. She flubs for a moment and then continues in English, because she doesn't actually speak Irish
This is shocking. At an EU Foreign Affairs Committee meeting, Lynn Boylan lamented that it was “a pity we can’t use our own language.” When it was pointed out that she could, in fact, speak Irish, she backtracked almost instantly: "I wasn’t prepared, so I’ll use English."

Michael Foot wholeheartedly supported Margaret Thatcher's intervention to protect the Falklands and would've done the same thing if he was PM, I don't think foreigners understand how firmly the country was united behind her response
i don't believe anyone who isn't an argentine nationalist or a tory actually is anything but apathetic about the falklands sorry

Just to be clear, then. FIFA: 1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA 2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like Smashing. All know where we stand

It’s time to remind them that Britain only colonised around 5% of US territory (the east coast). We had a royal treaty embedded with the natives to stop further expansion prior to independence. To which the independent USA discarded and began aggressive expansion.
Americans are absolutely NOT rooting for England, ESPECIALLY on our 250th freedom celebration. We love Mexico and Mexicans and Mexican food and Mexican beaches.

So, I have now watched two NFL games. Here is my Ted Talk on how the US Americans should make American rugby more attractive to us Europeans. (Because that is very important): 1) Europe should host it every year. 2) You should change the rules that I dont understand. 3) Get rid of any teams from cities that Europeans can not find on a map because they probably dont even exist. 4) Once Europeans start playing it, we will the best at it, because we have the best athletes. 5) In fact, we are probably already the best.
