Consumer rights mean that every person who buys various products, goods, and services, has the right to have information on the quality, purity, price, and standard of those products. Did you know that you have the right to file a complaint from anywhere, anytime as a consumer?

1. Digital trade needs trust. As more commerce moves online, consumers need confidence in who they are buying from, while legitimate businesses need ways to establish their credibility. Ideas such as verified sellers and a digital trust mark could play an important role in strengthening that confidence. Hon. Tanna noted that the proposed Trust Mark would help consumers identify verified online sellers and know who they are transacting with, while creating a clearer path for follow-up when something goes wrong. It is a practical step towards building greater confidence in Uganda’s growing digital marketplace. #KTASymposium2026

Four things stood out from today’s #KTASymposium2026 press conference. Today’s conversation brought together Hon. Sanjay Tanna @mtic_uganda , Co-Convenor; @xcenneth , Convenor and Partner at @kta_law ; Commissioner Patrick Mugisha from @mtic_uganda ; and Stephen Lamony of Alliance for Digital Trade, E-Mobility & Couriers- Uganda/ @Jumia_UG to set the stage for the KTA Annual Africa Technology & IP Symposium 2026. Across their remarks, one thing was clear: building Africa 's Digital Single Market has to translate into practical change for the people and businesses expected to participate in it. #KTASymposium2026

Buying something online across an African border can take seconds. But if the product never arrives, the seller disappears or your payment is lost, where do you go for redress? That was the practical question behind the consumer protection panel at #KTASymposium2026. The discussion highlighted a major gap in Africa’s Digital Single Market: protections may exist, but fragmented enforcement and complicated complaint processes can make them difficult for ordinary consumers to use. @Scarlet_Erica_ called for a shift from remedies that exist on paper to systems people can actually access, with clearer platform obligations, predictable enforcement and practical cross-border complaint mechanisms. A Digital Single Market needs more than easy transactions. It needs trust when things go wrong. @kta_law @ug_lawsociety #DigitalTrade #ConsumerProtection #AfCFTA

🚨CyberPulse Issue 15 | Cybersecurity Awareness Bulletin This week's biggest threat: PHP rushed out an emergency patch for two critical flaws dubbed PHP2Shell, and attackers started exploiting them just 19 minutes later. The flaw sits in PHP itself, so even a well-secured website can be exposed if the language running it hasn't been updated. With so much of the web, including WordPress, built on PHP, this one reaches far. Also flagged: ❗AI-Powered Hacking: One hacker used autonomous AI agents to breach over 100 corporate websites, including Deere and Cummins, at about $50 per attack. ❗Burger King Japan Breach: Contact details, birth dates and regional data of over 11 million app users were exposed. Watch out for phishing messages. ❗OVHcloud Tool Hijacked: A compromised employee GitHub account was used to publish a malicious version of OVHcloud's official command-line tool. 💡Tip: This month, attackers hijacked a WordPress backup plugin's cloud service, a Siemens update tool and a cloud provider's own command-line tool, all software people already trusted. Before updating any tool that manages your infrastructure or backups, confirm the update came from your team, not a prompt you don't remember approving. Protect yourself: ✔️Update PHP on all your servers now ✔️Verify updates before installing them ✔️Be wary of unexpected messages after a data breach Read, share, help build a safer digital Uganda. #CyberPulse #CyberSecurity #CERTUg #PoweredByNITAU

Prince David Wasajja survived the 2018 MV Templar boat disaster on Lake Victoria after receiving a life jacket and managing to stay afloat before fishermen rescued him from the water. Wasajja, the younger brother of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, was among the high-profile survivors when the overcrowded party boat capsized near Mutima Beach in Mukono District on November 24, 2018. Fellow survivor Fredrick Mubiru said Wasajja and musician Iryn Namubiru initially lacked life jackets, but some were later found for them. As the boat tilted and overturned, Wasajja reportedly clung to a pole before entering the water. His ability to swim and the life jacket helped him stay afloat until rescuers arrived. Fisherman George Onyango later identified Wasajja among those he helped rescue. However, the prince lost his right-hand man, John Bosco Nyanzi, in the tragedy. Speaking at a thanksgiving mass in March 2019, Wasajja thanked God and the local community for the rescue. He also questioned why passengers should be expected to inspect a boat’s engines before boarding, arguing that safety checks were the responsibility of those operating the vessel.
