Education support staff are some of the lowest paid in #onted. Their essential labour keeps schools running but is less publicly visible. Withdrawing their labour in its entirety will fully demonstrate just how important (and undervalued) they truly are. #canlab

Winning at the ILO would be a symbolic victory at best. The ILO can scrutinize Canada’s conduct and issue findings, but it can't repeal a law or force a government to change course. It’s like a moral victory with no enforcement mechanism.

OSSTF will now join OECTA, ETFO and OSBCU (CUPE) in conducting strike votes of their members. Note that strike votes are a normal part of the bargaining process. #onted
BREAKING: OSSTF/FEESO will hold a province-wide central strike vote for school board sector members from November 6 to 16 as the current round of collective bargaining continues.
“Our members want fair, negotiated contracts that address the realities they are seeing in schools every day. A strike vote gives us an opportunity to strengthen our bargaining position and sends a clear message to the Ford government that OSSTF/FEESO members are united behind the bargaining priorities we will bring to the table,” said #OSSTF President @marthahradowy.
A strike vote is not a strike, and it does not mean that job action is imminent or inevitable. A successful strike vote is one step in the collective bargaining process.

There are historical and political contexts to Carney's proposed labour law reforms that I cover here. In short, restricting the right to strike, especially in federally regulated sectors is a bad idea: theconversation.com/canada-s… #canlab #cdnpoli

As expected, the Carney government is undermining the right to strike with federal labour law reforms.
When it comes to attacking workers’ rights, recent history suggests governments will go as far as they think they can go. The labour movement has to make them think otherwise.
Unions and labour organizations across the country blasted the federal government’s new legislation overhauling labour law Monday, saying it will make strikes in federally regulated sectors all but impossible. thestar.com/business/unions-…
