Agent: “Perfect.”
Passenger: “So I don’t owe anything?”
Agent: “Correct.”
The passenger smiled.
Then he looked at the backpack.
Passenger: “Can I carry this on?”
The agent checked the backpack.
“Unfortunately, your ticket only includes a personal item. That bag is too large.”
The passenger stared at her.
Passenger: “So let me understand this.”
“You’ll charge me $200 for three extra pounds in my checked bag…”
“But if I move those three pounds onto my back, suddenly I need another fee?”
The agent paused.
“Those are two different baggage policies.”
The passenger laughed.
“So the weight isn’t the problem. The location of the weight is?”
The agent couldn’t help but smile.
“Basically.”
He shook his head.
“I think I finally understand how airlines make money.”
Then he pulled out a jacket, put it on, stuffed three shirts into the pockets, and walked away.
The agent looked at him.
“Have a good flight.”
He replied:
“After all this, I better.”
