“River sewage is becoming a serious public health concern, Prof Sir Chris Whitty has warned, as he demanded that water companies do more to keep effluent out of Britain’s waterways”. telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/06…

The ex-CEO of Southern Water has been charged with conspiracy to defraud, by manipulating water testing. Andy Burnham needs to clean up our water system and take all insolvent companies like Thames Water into public ownership now! @We_OwnIt @Feargal_Sharkey @WindrushWasp

Defra's answers to my questions on climate adaptation and ecosystem collapse have been woefully lacking. Now we know why. It's astonishing that only 20 Defra staff work on climate adaptation, while we're seeing some of the devastating droughts and wildfires. theguardian.com/environment/…

The headline numbers being used to scare government off water nationalisation don’t add up. For Thames the financial cost is much less than claimed and the net economic cost even lower. Special administration would demonstrate the true value. bit.ly/4hpas2u

Since Thames Water introduced a hosepipe ban 17 days ago they have now leaked 9,921,459,817 litres of water from their badly maintained, underinvested, cracked old network of pipes. thameswaterleakage.neocities…

Replying to @thameswater
@thameswater recently told me that due to “fiscal constraints”, they can’t afford to fix all of the illegal outfalls on the River Roding by 2030 (already a more than fair deadline in the circumstances I feel). This single one million pound payment to their finance chief would, alone, be enough to stop a billion litres of raw sewage a year entering the river in Ilford. Which other companies do we allow to commit serious crimes because they’ve taken money that should have been used to ensure their company complies with the law & given it to their execs instead? How long until the government says “no more” to these chancers & puts Thames Water out of its misery? news.sky.com/story/thames-wa…

Thames Water's finance director given a £1,000,000 signing on bonus. Water industry depravity hits an all time low. Their contempt for customers and the environment clearly knows no bounds. When are govt going to intervene and put a stop to this? @andyburnham @angelaeagle news.sky.com/story/thames-wa…

Liv Garfield CBE. Formerly CEO of Severn Trent Water. From 2014 to 2025 she accumulated nearly £31 MILLION in total remuneration. Water bosses are gangsters. Shameless criminals who care nothing about customers, just their own pockets. #BBCBreakfast

Hi @YorkshireWater anything to say as these facts are truly appalling, especially whilst Nicola Shaw takes 1.3 mil + 660k in bonuses, sorry additional payments 🤫, whilst YW is downgraded to 1 star! #DirtyBusiness
New analysis by @WindrushWasp shows that 80–90% of untreated sewage discharge hours examined did not meet a rainfall test used by the EA investigators in a Southern Water prosecution. The EA must assess the evidence and investigate any permit breaches. Full report: peter-hammond.com/sewagepoll… #AnglersAgainstPollution #EndSewagePollution

Important new research out today from Peter Hammond (@watervole3) of @WindrushWasp, whose work has been instrumental in exposing illegal sewage dumping by water companies. If his latest findings are correct, the scale of the problem—and the Environment Agency's failure to act—is truly staggering. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0n…

In an attempt to stop journalist getting to the bottom of a story the MOD brands Rachel Salvidge as "Manifestly unreasonable". Knowing Rachel as I do they've just made one big bloody mistake, it's a hell of a story.
I'm MANIFESTLY UNREASONABLE, according to the Ministry of Defence. Well, sometimes, yes. But not in this case. Asking whether they're polluting air, land and water with carcinogens seems perfectly sane to me. substack.com/home/post/p-207…

This is how a lake should and shouldn’t look. Both lakes are: - glacially formed ✅ - over 10km in length ✅ - split into 2 basins ✅ - large populations plus tourism industries ✅ The difference? Lake Annecy has no sewage discharged it. Blog here ⬇️ savewindermere.com/news/how-…

Except @EnvAgency has not prosecuted a single litterer on my river, even where it’s obvious who has done it (eg a household dumping waste over their fence). The EA has also ignored serious waste crime: eg a landowner who dumped 10,000 tonnes of building waste into the river, & a huge illegal landfill site (bigger than Kidlington) beside the river near Epping, which they are planning to leave there to rot. They decided instead that the best use of their resources was to investigate & threaten to prosecute me & other volunteers for removing rubbish from the river & give me a warning not to do it again. Can you call in the EA chief exec & demand that they concentrate their resources on stopping the serious waste crimes that the public clearly wants them to concentrate on rather than hassling local volunteers?
Fly-tipping and littering is a disgrace that blights local communities. We are sending a clear message to those who dump their rubbish – we are coming after you and you will pay the price.
