We are excited to announce Erik Hersman @whiteafrican as one of the speakers at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Blantyre, Malawi. Erik Hersman is the co-founder of Gridless, a company pioneering decentralized energy solutions through Bitcoin mining to electrify off-grid communities across Africa. With active renewable-powered sites in Kenya, Malawi, and Zambia, Gridless uses Bitcoin mining to monetize excess energy and build a financially sustainable path to rural electrification for the continent’s 600 million unconnected people. He is also the founder of Node, a Nairobi-based campus for AI, energy, and freedom tech, hosting an on-premises GPU cluster, solar generation, and a community of researchers and developers building sovereign infrastructure for the continent. Erik has spent two decades building tech and infrastructure for Africa. He co-founded Ushahidi, the crisis-mapping platform now used worldwide; the iHub, Nairobi’s influential innovation hub; and BRCK, Africa’s largest public Wi-Fi platform. He writes and speaks regularly on Bitcoin, energy, and the future of Africa infrastructure. Don’t miss any of his session at ABC2026. Get 20% off your ABC2026 tickets and secure your pass today. Lots of Security incidents today, here's some practical tips for those who just wanna protect yourself: 1) UPDATE EVERYTHING - main targets are: a) Browsers - Chrome, Safari, Firefox b) OS: : Settings -> General -> software update; Linux: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade; Windows: I think there's a button. Do this for any remote home servers & Openclaw/hermes boxes c) Phones: Update it all d) Desktop apps (Slack, Cursor, Discord, etc) 2) Limit web browsing this week: Stay within walled gardens (twitter, youtube, etc); don't click random links this week. Just wait until the patches go through. Do step 1 again after a week. 3) Avoid untrusted Wifi networks until your devices are updated 4) Stay vigilant about phishing emails offering "certificate fixes" or fraud updates 5) Have an iPhone 11-16? TURN BLUETOOTH OFF for the time being until apple patches come through. 6) Code/Dev: UPDATE ALL YOUR REPOS - @charliermarsh has already updated uv 0.13.4 which reacts to the eMudra incident for uv (Python), Typesript according to Claude has equivelant. Tell your agents to go and update all your active repos to update package manager across uv, npm, bun, cargo, etc etc What advice did I miss?

Kind of fit to country, isn’t it.
Kenya produces the most podcasts (episodes/shows released per week), Nigeria has the largest audience, and South African podcasters earn the most money - @danaceda of @semabox presents the Creative Africa Intelligence Report 2026.

Wait. Am I getting this right? These guys just came out of SIX YEARS in stealth with a machine that takes code and spits out actual working micro-machines??? Tiny devices with moving parts, without the usual per-product tooling or months of process development. A different code… BAM: different machine! A regular factory locks in custom fixtures and process recipes for each thing it builds. 3D printer…? Just changes the shape. What Atomic Machines describes is closer to a compiler for physical devices: The system measures the result after every step, feeds that back, and only lets the part move forward if it is in spec. Their first output is the PrimeSwitch PS-150, a hermetic relay about the size of a fingernail that carries 150 A continuous, opens to 1,500 V isolation in 50 microseconds, and draws no power while holding the state. Aimed at the 800 V DC rails showing up in AI data centers, where mechanical contactors are too slow and solid-state switches bleed heat and cannot fully isolate. If you are even remotely interested in manufacturing, you know this a different c a t e g o r y of manufacturing. Congrats to @jeffholden and Klaus Zietlow and the rest of the team!

This is EXACTLY why I remain so bullish on the broader AI infrastructure buildout. Look at what is happening with GPU rental prices compared to AI token prices. Since July, the cost of AI tokens has collapsed, yet H100 GPU rental prices have remained elevated at roughly $2.70 per hour and this is a perfect example of Jevons Paradox. As AI becomes cheaper to use, developers and businesses can afford to use significantly more of it. Applications that were previously too expensive to run at scale suddenly become economically viable. Think about it, if the cost of running an AI agent drops significantly, companies can afford to deploy thousands of agents instead of hundreds. The same applies to coding assistants, AI search, customer support, and pretty much every application that relies on inference. And while each individual task might become cheaper, the total number of tasks being performed could grow significantly faster. That means more demand for GPUs, memory, networking equipment, data centers, and electricity and we're already seeing signs of this in the chart. Even as token prices have fallen sharply, H100 rental prices have remained relatively stable since July. That suggests demand for compute is still strong enough to support pricing despite the improvements we're seeing in AI efficiency. Now, there is an important distinction here. Cheaper tokens don't automatically guarantee higher GPU prices. Hardware supply, utilization rates, and newer GPU generations all play a role. But the fact that compute pricing has remained this resilient while token prices have declined tells us something important about underlying demand. I also think investors are underestimating just how much additional AI usage lower prices could unlock over the next several years. We're still relatively early in the adoption cycle, and many businesses have barely started integrating AI into their daily operations. This is why I continue to favor the companies supplying the infrastructure behind AI rather than trying to predict which model provider will ultimately dominate. Regardless of whether OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or open source models capture the most market share, someone still needs to provide the compute required to run all of these models. And as long as AI usage continues growing faster than efficiency improvements reduce compute requirements, the broader infrastructure buildout should continue benefiting. Bullish on the broader AI infrastructure buildout. a megawatt is a megawatt and that's it! compute twitter loves the phrase "a gpu hour is not a gpu hour". at the chip level, gpu hours aren't equivalent. but when you’re financing a data center, yes, they are. I think this is the most opportunistic time for this. when there aren’t a lot of gpus, people are less careful about the quality of compute than they should be. the main driving factor is speed. whoever gets there first, wins. not necessarily the ones who have the "best" compute when people want to build a data center, they borrow $ and lenders decide to give them $ based on a few things, one of them being how many megawatts of power the site has. they rarely ask what type of gpus go into the data centers - bitcoin miners are getting billion dollar leases and loans. microsoft, aws, and coreweave are doing leases with them (and banks are lending against those leases). no one picks the miner with the best gpu experience or the best quality of compute because at the financing layer it simply doesn't matter

6 years in stealth Let that sink in That was hell of a bet 👏
After six years in stealth, Atomic Machines is out. Our mission: on-demand, universal command of matter. First beachhead: the Matter Compiler, an AI-native manufacturing system that builds working micro-machines from code alone. No per-product tooling. No process development. Different code, different machine.

I think this is very well put. Pay particular attention to point 4, though. Economically, it spells an oncoming doom for the big centralized providers that currently dominate AI service. The future will be decentralized and local.
12 months of progress on the jagged frontier: 1) AI got spikier, not rounder. 2) Maths, fluid reasoning, expert work: past human level. 3) There is almost no middle ground. Once a capability crosses human level, it often quickly becomes 100x+ cheaper than a human. 4) Cost keeps decreasing after capability increases stop. Language and knowledge look saturated but price keeps falling. 5) The gaps are not a budget issue. Human-level memory, self-monitoring and long-run planning are not for sale at any price. AI is now a superhuman specialist that is sub-human at running itself.
