“This is not about Mike Ditka. Football owes me nothing."
FLASHBACK: Years before his death at 86, NFL legend Mike Ditka took his fight for retired players to Capitol Hill, urging lawmakers to help those struggling to receive disability benefits and support.
“I owe my whole life to football,” Ditka told lawmakers, stressing that he wasn't fighting for himself, but for former players who sacrificed their bodies for the game.
The Hall of Famer used his voice to champion the players who helped build the NFL and needed someone in their corner long after leaving the field.

Gene Wilder in his very first film appearance, perfectly cast as the nervous Eugene Grizzard in "Bonnie Nad Clyde"..The scene was inspired by a real-life incident in 1933, when the actual Barrow gang kidnapped an undertaker named H.D. Darby and a woman traveling with him. Darby reportedly told his captors his occupation, prompting Bonnie to make a darkly ironic remark about possibly "needing his services someday." Darby later became one of the coroners who worked on Bonnie and Clyde after they were killed.

🇺🇸 Teddy Roosevelt slept with a revolver beside his bed. In the White House.
His valet, James E. Amos, left the account. While President, Roosevelt often went armed. Every night he placed a large revolver at the side of his bed. After Roosevelt died, Edith gave that gun to Amos.
The piece most often tied to the story is a Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3, chambered in .38 Long Colt. S&W shipped it to him on May 12, 1898, the day he left to train the Rough Riders.
It sold at auction in 2022 for $910,625.
Speak softly. Sleep armed.

“If You Leave Me Now” is from Chicago’s 1976 album Chicago X. Written by bassist Peter Cetera, the tender, acoustic-driven ballad became the band's first #1 hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the charts in the UK, Canada and Australia, while winning two Grammy Awards. Its soft-rock sensibility marked a turning point for the band, shifting their sound away from their brass-driven jazz-rock roots toward a more pop-oriented direction.
The band and their producer initially resisted the track, fearing it was too soft and commercial for their jazz-rock identity. Cetera insisted, and the song became Chicago's first #1 single despite largely omitting the band's signature brass section in favor of acoustic guitar and strings.
Communism
The deadliest famine in human history wasn't a natural disaster. It was engineered by a communist government.
In 1958, Mao Zedong launched the Great Leap Forward to turn communist China into an industrial giant overnight. Peasants were forced off their land and onto massive collective farms.
Private farming was banned.
To hit impossible steel quotas, villagers melted their own pots, tools and plows in backyard furnaces. The metal came out worthless. And grain rotted in the fields, because the farmers who should have been harvesting it were making steel instead.
Terrified to report failure, local officials sent Beijing wildly inflated harvest numbers. The state then seized grain based on those fake figures and left entire villages with nothing.
Even as people starved, the government kept exporting grain and refused foreign aid, in order to protect the image of the revolution. It blamed the deaths on bad weather.
When a top general warned Mao the policy was killing millions, Mao purged him and pushed harder still.
Estimates of the dead run from around 15 million to 45 million, and some historians go even higher. It remains the worst famine ever recorded.
Not drought. Not war. A communist government that starved its own people.
