No lie, a few years ago, I got into an argument with my caribbean mom over AAVE. She wouldn't believe that it was a legit dialect; she just called it "bad english".
I told her that she wouldn't like it of someone called her patois "bad french", but she just couldn't relate. 😞

As a black non-American, I can say that the rest of the diaspora can be dismissive of black American history, adversity, culture, language, ethnicity, and achievements. Of course, we're not all like this, but it is a problem in our communities.
