Rest in peace, Sir Patrick Stewart, who passed away today at the age of 86. Perhaps best known for his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Stewart spent the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown sharing videos of himself reading Shakespeare’s sonnets. Notably, he was once joined by his neighbor’s cat Glenn who appeared unimpressed by Sonnet 40. #cat #catlovers #RIP

Jamia Millia Islamia has not seen a students' union for 20 years - a pattern consistent with Muslim universities if one looks at Aligarh Muslim University as well. While AMU is set to get its union after 8 years, Jamia is on a boil, with several students on hunger strike, as authorities present no clear timeline for election. @Asad_Ashraf88 reports @AJEnglish aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/2…

I just finished the set and every scene is either a blocking masterpiece or the most chaotic brawl you've ever seen
Japanese Yakuza films were really a masterclass in blocking in this regard. I've lost count of how many scenes in the Battles Without Honour and Humanity series look like this, often involving even more people. (Battles Without Honour and Humanity: Proxy War)

The fact that he presented us with this in his private album back in 1986, and so delicately in the national award-winning Veedu in 1988 already 🤌🤌🤌
it’s unbearably heartwarming to me that this magnificent track that literally feels like falling in love plays over karthi and dorothy finding each other again and again… and it’s fucking called “how else to name it?” 🥹🥹🥹🥹

When “Storm” — a seven-and-a-half-minute music video starring Swedish rapper Yung Lean and directed by Romain Gavras —  debuted in April, it seemed like a celebration of all the things AI supposedly couldn’t fake: sweat, luck, and the swagger of a guy who knows how cool he looks standing still. But once people started calling “Storm” something AI couldn’t do, AI companies seemed to take it personally. “The tech people were like, ‘Oh yeah? AI could never?’ Then they started replicating it,” Gavras said. “So we were forced into this conversation. It’s a nightmare.” In September, social media was flooded with clips that re-created a half-minute from “Storm” — Lean’s cigarette, his walk up the steps, the dance explosion behind him — with the same choreography and camera moves but with Lean and his classmates replaced by strangers, pets, celebrities, and worse. Many of the clips were made with a tool called Genjutsu, which was released in late August by the AI video company Higgsfield. As the trend took off, other AI apps began offering ready-made “Storm” templates of their own. It’s a glimpse of a future in which people can lift an artist’s style, or even their entire personality, as easily as they once downloaded mp3s. Gavras finds it “fascinating and depressing — it’s like Prometheus stealing the fire.” Read the full story: nymag.visitlink.me/6-cKhK

Whatever Sharjeel wrote, or writes, disagree with him, fine, but he writes it in his own name while still imprisoned. Shekhar Gupta wants to "kick up a storm" platforming an anonymous person who can fire any criticism of Indian muslims, demonising them, without being accountible!
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national. 2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights. 3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right. 4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else. 5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective: Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not theprint.in/opinion/sharjeel…
