Most institutions won't move serious capital onchain if every position is public.
Zama's Q3 report covers how that's getting solved, from confidential vaults to confidential swaps.
Andy and I are covering it Monday with a stacked lineup.
Shielded | Q3 2026 drops next week.
Shielded is Zama’s quarterly institutional report on the Zama Protocol and the ecosystem growing around it.
We’re breaking down everything that happened in Q3 with @therollupco and some special guests. The full episode and the report will be available next Monday.
Hosted by @andyyy and @robbieklages , featuring:
- @randhindi , Co-Founder & CEO at @zama
- @analog_kyle , VP of Investor & Protocol Relations at @zama

Cryptography has never mattered more.
As AI and sensitive data grow together, who gets to see what is a central question. FHE offers an answer: computing on data that stays encrypted.
Since 2020, FHE.org has grown from one meetup into a global community 👇

What do you think is going to happen once Zama makes confidential tokens ubiquitous and supported everywhere, every wallet, every chain?
Let me tell you...
This is where mass adoption starts, as it becomes so easy to do what you're already doing, but with confidential balances and amounts.
As it should be...
You wouldn't be comfortable buying something on a website not encrypted with HTTPS. It'll be the same.
HTTP -> HTTPS
USDC -> cUSDC
USDT -> cUSDT
Onward.

Very excited to be a part of this effort and build standards for institutional onchain finance alongside the teams actually doing the work.
Zama brings compliance onchain through confidential tokens - selective disclosure at the protocol level, without giving up composability or verifiability, ensuring to preserve the value of what public chains enable.
Any regulated business operating onchain needs Zama and standards is how we get blockchains to go from an RnD project to financial infra.
Congratulations to the team and excited to contribute!
Zama joins the Open Transaction Layer (OTL) as a founding partner.
OTL is an industry initiative building reference protocols for identity, messaging, and transaction coordination across institutions, unhosted wallets, and agents.
Zama brings confidentiality to onchain transactions through FHE, keeping amounts and balances encrypted on public blockchains with full verifiability and programmable compliance.
As a founding partner, Zama will help shape open standards for secure, compliant, and confidential onchain finance.

In early June, @zama held under a fifth of confidential DeFi. By Oct 17 it held just over half, $120.2M excluding its own token. That's $8.2M more than Railgun, a privacy protocol live since 2021.

ALT Two lines, Jun 1 to Oct 17, 2026, confidential value in USD. Zama, excluding its own token, rises from $32.8M at the end of June to $120.2M on Oct 17, 3.7 times, with steps after the first vault on Jun 23 and the 16-vault launch on Sep 15. Railgun moves between $74M and $117M and ends at $112.0M, $8.2M below Zama.

Stablecoins moved $33T in 2025, and every transfer is visible to anyone with a block explorer.
Encrypting the amounts is the boring fix institutions can’t skip.
It’s hard to make things simple. It took us years of cryptography and engineering.
Today, shielding a token takes one transaction. Same token, same chain, no bridging.
Your balance and transfer amounts are encrypted onchain. Hold it, send it, earn on it, swap it.
That’s what it should feel like. Not a feature you go and find, just how things work.

A few people yesterday asked how AI could impact FHE / @zama, so here is a quick tldr:
1. There is no evidence that lattices / FHE can be broken by AI, SI or quantum. If anything, there is a growing consensus that fully breaking lattices might imply P = NP.
2. However, it's almost certain that better attacks will be discovered, which would require increasing parameter size and taking a short-term hit on performance. The Zama protocol is modular, so we can increase parameters size or swap out any component quickly, without changing the UX or rotating user keys.
3. Zama uses FHE only for privacy, so breaking FHE would not allow stealing funds that are shielded, it would only allow seeing balances and amounts. This is unlike ZK, where breaking the cryptography means you can steal funds and mint infinite tokens.
4. We do a lot of work on cryptanalysis and improving the security of FHE. We spend millions a year on audits (AI and human), research grants, bounties, have 30 PhDs in the team, etc. We have a plan A (the current thing we do), but also a plan B and a plan C if things go wrong. Whatever the future throws at us, we will have a way to adapt to offer the same service.
5. Hashes have been broken in the past, many times (MD5, SHA1, etc), so saying they are more secure than lattices, which have been extensively studied for decades is a stretch to say the least. Not saying its impossible, but history is on the side of lattices here.
Lets also remember that if indeed lattices and elliptic curves are broken and there is no public-key encryption anymore, then hiding your balances onchain is the least of your worries, because the world as we know it would be over: no private communications, no online banking, your AI prompts would be public, etc.

Everyone keeps talking about the trillions coming onchain - that capital won't arrive while every position, entry and exit is public.

I’m usually fairly sceptical about new crypto ecosystems but was super impressed by @analog_kyle and what they’re building at @zama
TLDR transact on your usual chains, without the need to bridge, but “shield” (encrypt) your onchain assets so that transacted amounts are hidden
Thank you @eth_apple for introducing us!
