Privileged that CAS released ‘Icon of the Sky’ — a tribute to the MiG-21 in the @IAF_MCC as much as history of the type!
Co-authored with and expanding on the work of the late Pushpindar Singh & Air Mshl Philip Rajkumar. An honour to leave our imprint on the Indian MiG-21 story!

An Army Veteran's 5 Suggestions For Agnipath Scheme. Over four years ago, I had made a few suggestions to improve the Agniveers’ terms of service. The extension offered today could have been a built in factor from inception. ndtv.com/opinion/an-army-vet…
Honestly this makes more sense than the scheme itself, so I’m choosing to believe this as fact.
“Stavatti Aerospace, a group that regularly claims to have aerospace designs for every Pentagon contract, said on Oct. 30 that it submitted a bid on UJTS.”
I enjoy when otherwise serious reports allow for humorous little asides.

While we were absorbed in the Air Chief's changeover, former CAS ACM BS Dhanoa at @USIofIndia Mil Heritage Fest answered a question that refuses to retire: why didn't the IAF use combat air power in 1962?
The answer isn't in one note. Nor is it hidden.

"Our borders remain logistically compromised, not because we lacked the patriotism or the funds, but because our national security objectives were captured by an iron triangle of desktop architects and a risk-free Cost Plus construction arrangement."
Devastating thread.
Desktop Artistry vs. Himalayan Reality
Thanks for revealing the "original sin" of the Kashmir rail link, Mr. Mundrey. Your column inadvertently confirms what safety engineers have long known: construction on this vital national project was launched on a pure paper alignment, drawn across two-dimensional topographic sheets in comfortable offices without any physical ground surveys, geological investigations, or geotechnical due diligence.
While the public relations machinery broadcasts images of the Chenab Bridge as a triumph of indigenous self-reliance, the structural reality of the final line opened last year tells a far more troubling story. It is a story of how desktop artistry manufactured a multi-generational strategic liability.
Here is the real cost of that paper alignment:
1. The Phantom Route: 96 km Abandoned
The author claims the line follows his team's original route, "refined by later surveys." The word "refined" is a massive administrative euphemism. The reality? A staggering 96 km of the original 125 km paper alignment had to be completely abandoned in 2009 due to severe structural unviability, forcing a shift to a much steeper gradient alignment. Only 29 km of the original desktop design survived contact with actual Himalayan geology.
2. Operational Capacity Cut in Half
Because the contour-hugging paper alignment ran directly through active slope-creep zones, severe landslide risks forced drastic adjustments. To protect against slope failures, loop lines had to be cut from two down to just one at 6 out of 7 intermediate stations. Furthermore, multiple station locations had to be frantically shifted to find stable ground. The result? The longest block section became a prohibitively long 20 km. For a single-line project, this artificial bottleneck has permanently strangled the line's planned capacity to less than half of what was originally promised.

Farewell to a leader who shouldered his responsibilities — at all ranks — with the utmost seriousness, yet never took himself too seriously. A rare trait, that made him a rare person.
(Glimpses from ACM AP Singh’s last Tejas sortie at Exercise Tarang Shakti earlier this month.)
The LPs are gutless so the entire VC ecosystem ends up at this bullshit mutual funds equivalent risk-reward profile.
Why are Indian VCs so afraid to take risk and make money?
Someone should go to India and take risk and make money.

The road “upgrade” is already a shitshow on the blacktop. Why should the sidewalk be any different?
watever hope (0.0001%) was left in this Galleria & Vyapar Kendra road upgradation project of being able to provide any walkable / crossable pedestrian pathways by d doomed @OfficialGMDA under @pcmeenaIAS has been taken away by shri shri 108 ADVOCATE VIKAS YADAV ji (Councillor ward 22- MCG) who it seems lacks basic common sense leave alone any understanding of urban infrastructure issues. He has installed a sign board grandstanding himself in the middle of the so called pedestrian walkway making it unwalkable.

Fantastic piece by @AnchitGupta9 — succinct summary of the situation and useful prescriptions.
1/5 An odd contradiction underlies India’s growing appetite for air power. The Army wants more access to it, the Navy wants more of it at sea, and political leaders have seen at Balakot and during Op Sindoor the options it offers without committing to a prolonged campaign.
2/5 Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force is down to 29 fighter squadrons against an authorised 42.5. As demand grows, the available strength is thinning, and claims upon it are multiplying.
3/5 Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit will take charge as the new Air Force chief on 31 October. And the obvious part of his inheritance is the aircraft shortage. Tejas Mk1A deliveries have slipped, while Tejas Mk2 and AMCA are years away from forming operational squadrons.
4/5 The IAF has remarkably few natural allies in the institutions whose decisions shape or influence its future. This doesn’t mean other Services or industry are working against it. But each has legitimate interests that do not always coincide with what the IAF considers necessary.
5/5 What are the challenges awaiting the new IAF chief?

I’ve said it a hundred times - the biggest reason why Indian cities look so bad at ground level is an absence of proper pavements.
*It causes air pollution
*It prevents pedestrian movement
*It encourages littering
*It ruins the country’s image.
Why can’t we build and maintain proper pavements?
Why can’t we fix the problem across the nation in mission mode?
Delhi Gov basically all of this week.
hi @dtptraffic Extreme traffic jam near Vasant Kunj on the Mehrauli-Palam Road towards Andheria Mod. I have been stuck here for over 30 minutes with barely any movement. Requesting Delhi Traffic Police to look into this urgently and manage the traffic. @DelhiPolice
“Jo mila wo hazam” applies to the government, not the taxpayer.
#MCNews | 🚨 Prime Minister Narendra Modi says he has to repeatedly remind people that income up to ₹12 lakh is now tax-free under the new tax regime. Speaking at a Summit on October 22, Modi added, “Jo mila wo hazam, aisa nahi chalta hai,” while highlighting the income-tax relief announced in Budget 2025-26.
Absolute clown show, this city.
TRAFFIC ALERT
📍 Location:
Old RTR Flyover, carriageway from IGI Airport/Gurugram towards Vasant Vihar; Dhaula Kuan on both sides and all roads in the Delhi Cantonment area.
🔧 Reason:
Repair work is being carried out by PWD officials on a damaged portion of the flyover. The work is likely to take another 3–4 days.
👮 Traffic Restrictions:
The Old RTR Flyover has been closed, and the entire traffic has been diverted onto the adjoining service road. Consequently, long traffic queues are being observed on the affected stretch.
Due to the congestion, commuters are taking alternative routes via NH-48 towards Dhaula Kuan and other roads passing through Delhi Cantt. Therefore, heavy traffic is expected on both carriageways of Dhaula Kuan and various roads in the Delhi Cantt area, especially during peak hours.
⚠️ Advice:
Commuters are advised to avoid the affected stretch, use alternative routes, allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed on the road.

Because everyone involved in administering this city is competing in the Stupidity Olympics.
Hey @MCD_Delhi, why are you cleaning road curbs during peak traffic hours, especially when the route is already congested due to repairs on the RTR flyover?
Airport commuters, plan ahead and leave early if you’re taking the Outer Ring Road.
@dtptraffic, please look into this and ensure better traffic management.
Let’s not go to Delhi. It is a silly place.
People make noise on irrelevant issues
Traffic jam affects all-millions
But no one demands a Traffic Agency in Delhi to manage traffic?
