So, the right and straightforward action is Samia to step down with its illegitimate government having killed people who boycotted the general election deliberately, and followed majority of youth in their homes and social places.

Today, 29 October 2026, Catholic communities across Tanzania gathered for memorial Masses for the people who lost their lives in the violence that followed the general election of 29 October 2025. From Leeds, I joined them in prayer at the evening Mass at Leeds Cathedral.
After Mass, I lit candles before the memorial to the English Martyrs. Their story comes from another century and another land. Even so, it speaks to the same truths: every person has the right to follow conscience freely, justice cannot be denied without wounding a whole society, and lasting peace rests on both.
One line of the martyrs' prayer stayed with me: "O God, you make our faith firm and strengthen our weaknesses." I brought our brothers and sisters in Tanzania into that prayer, together with the families who still grieve and still wait for answers.
Remembering them must lead us forward. Tanzania needs the truth about what happened, accountability for those responsible, and a new constitution that protects the dignity, voice and freedom of every citizen. Only on these foundations can reconciliation and lasting peace be built.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace. May Tanzania walk the path of truth, justice and peace.
