My book is out this month! It asks some questions, joins dots, suggests ways to look at things differently, and is trite in some ways but interesting in others. Themes: International law / human rights / Islamic law / law & society / transitional justice. bloomsbury.com/uk/truth-and-…
Excited to present our timely new book on forced displacement of Palestinian Bedouins in the occupied West Bank. This is a lesser known but by no means less important aspect of Israel's war on Palestine. Shout out to all project colleagues and book contributors (and Hart pub.)
New book! Ending impunity for international law violations: Palestinian Bedouins and the risk of forced displacement (Hart 2025), edited by Alice Panepinto together with colleagues Bana Abu Zuluf, Brendan C Browne, Ahmad Amara, Munir Nuseibeh and Triestino Mariniello.
This open access edited collection is the first book-length academic publication on the Palestinian Bedouins at risk of forced displacement in the Central West Bank and Greater Jerusalem area. At its core are two questions: firstly; what are the humanitarian vulnerabilities they face and how are they produced/constructed? And secondly, how does protracted impunity for international law violations drive humanitarian protection risks for them?
It interweaves international law, community-based empirical research and interdisciplinary perspectives, to offer the broadest possible framework for understanding these complex and complicated questions. This book is one of the core outputs of AHRC-funded project AH/T007540/1 (2020-2024). You can find out more on the publisher's website: bloomsbury.com/uk/ending-imp… And you can download an open access copy of the book at this link: pure.qub.ac.uk/en/publicatio…

This is the sorry state of academia today: a British university fires scholar battling cancer due to "attendance". There are no words.
Regrettably, I find myself forced to step down as external member to the International Justice and Human Rights Research Centre at Edge Hill University (UK). This follows the University’s dismissal of a distinguished scholar - also mother of two young kids (name undisclosed for privacy purpose) - on "grounds of attendance", due to her being treated for CANCER. I find absolutely outrageous that a place that teaches int'l law and human rights can take such an appalling decision, at such a critical moment in someone's life. I urge once again the University to immediately reinstate the employee and ascertain any responsibilities associated with her dismissal. @edgehill @ehudismissal

We’re here at the High Court today w @alhaq_org to continue our fight to stop arms exports to Israel. The govt have allowed F-35 fighter jet parts to reach Israel via the global programme - despite admitting the clear risk they may be used in violations of international law. 🧵

Despite ICJ Order that Israel must immediately halt its military offensive+ any other action in Rafah which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that would bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, #Israel is bombing families in tents.
Hell on earth. This is beyond violations of international law there is no grammar to describe what's happening
#Gaza has become hell on earth. Families continue to seek refuge, trying to escape war, but there is no such thing as a safe place in the Gaza Strip.
No one is safe: not civilians, not aid workers, no one has been spared. We need a #CeasefireNow.

I went past this peaceful protest today. The university is antagonising its students instead of listening to their legitimate requests. Heavy-handed policing on campus should be reserved for crime (like GBV / stalking etc) not for this:

We condemn Oxford vice chancellor Irene Tracey in the strongest possible terms for bringing in police to violently arrest her own students, engaged in peaceful protest against genocide.
@UniversitiesUK must make clear to university leaders that this repression is unacceptable.

Attacks on the ICC by the US, Israel and other Western countries promote a culture of impunity.

We will not allow those that supported war crimes in Gaza to rewrite their roles.
We started our investigation on 9 October. We collected evidence of those in the UK that were complicit in Israeli suspected war crimes.
We will be holding politicians and commentators who are complicit to account. This is not a game where you get to pretend you were not involved in the murder of thousands.
Justice is coming for you too.
