The impact of AGOA is a sideshow when compared to the damage we ourselves have inflicted on the economy amongst which poor policy choices, governance failures and patronage excesses are the chief culprits.

Living in the Cape we probably have a better understanding of tiers of government. Well, people that pay attention that is and donβt rely on gossip. Quite frustrating explaining to people in other provinces who havenβt dealt with mixed responsibility/powers for a very long time

The AGOA exclusion occurs just as South Africa and the US move into a state of political flux. The potential of a weakened Republican Party and ANC can shift policy & orientation in both nations. Not to mention global trade rebalancing & new market opportunities.

Costly setback for the Patriotic Alliance as the Western Cape High Court dismisses their urgent court application against the DA, with costs!
The court found the urgency was self-created. The facts matter! π

WANTED GANG MEMBER ARRESTED AFTER SHOOTOUT WITH POLICE NEAR MANENBERG - Cape Town, VOTING STATION
A 32-year-old wanted gang member has been arrested following a shootout with SAPS Anti-Gang Unit members deployed for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Police spotted the suspect in Ruimte Road, approximately 150 metres from a voting station. He allegedly opened fire on officers, who returned fire and arrested him.
A firearm fitted with an extended magazine and 32 rounds of ammunition was seized.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Western Cape police management commended the Anti-Gang Unit for its vigilance and swift response, which prevented a potentially serious shooting incident.

Apart from not knowing about potholes, water and electricity outages, there are many reasons why the Cape Flats will always vote DA. Below are some some examples:
Grateful to have grown up in a @Our_DA led city, and province. π
Helen Zille has literally devoted her entire adult life to doing what is right and necessary for South Africa to succeed - from her time as a young anti-Apartheid activist until now, giving up what should be her retirement to enjoy with her grandchildren to help turnaround JHB.
The Political Master Manipulator that thrives on deception, division and political games. Her actions raise serious questions about whether she is genuinely interested in fixing Joburg or simply pursuing political power. One question. Two different interviews. Two different answers. To this day, the people of Joburg are left wondering: which version of the truth must we believe?
Bahlali, you can either choose a leader with a proven record, who understands Joburgβs challenges and has demonstrated the ability to deliver, or you can choose a political manipulator whose actions risk deepening divisions and undermining the future of our city. The power is in your hands to decide the kind of leadership you want for the next 5 years in your city. Vote for ActionSA!!

7. The Court has made many adverse findings against both the DA & ANC run administrations. Indeed the latter has far more adverse findings than the former. Yet this anti-Helen advocacy highlights only one & not the other, a deliberate misrepresentation for a political goal.

6. A 3rd argument against Helen is her βanti-poorβ agenda. The evidence advanced for this is the Constitutional Courtβs judgement against the Cape Town for its failure to enable affordable housing. The peculiarity of this argument is that it highlights only one side of the case.

Public service should be judged on evidence.
At the end of 2025/26, Cape Town recorded:
β’ 88.7 km of water pipes replaced
β’ 104.6 km of sewer pipes replaced
β’ 99.5% drinking-water-quality compliance
β’ 815 taps and 6,505 toilets provided in informal settlements

Iβve seen a lot of commentary diminishing the importance of AGOA to our economy. The fact is that the South African economy needs every possible competitive edge we can get. For the affected industries it means more unemployment, production cuts, investment risk. For my province, the Eastern Cape, the economic impact is significant for citrus, automotive and components manufacturers.

We have to vote. And we must vote for the party that is going to deliver clean audits, well run cities, corrupt free municipalities, irrespective of our ideological beliefs. Our country our people deserve a government that works for ALL SAβns, we should be colour blind by now. πΏπ¦
Those of us who want stable and functioning municipalities are like flotsam and jetsum being swept along on a tide of stupidity towards the craggy rocks of disaster π
This is pathetic.
Iβm paying thousands of Rands to my municipality every month but instead of voting for the party which I believe will make best use of those monies to deliver services, this lady wants me to rather vote for a party which enables βsupport from an influential network of progressive donors such as Muslim organisations.β
