You are probably familiar with the story in the Babylonian Talmud (Yoma 39b), where four extraordinary signs are listed as having begun 40 years before the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70.
The lot for the Lord ceased coming up in the high priest's right hand; the scarlet thread associated with the scapegoat no longer turned white; the western lamp of the Temple no longer burned continually; and the doors of the Temple began opening by themselves.
This was brought about by Christ's death and resurrection. The Old Covenant waxed old (Hebrews 8:13) before it was brought an end to by Titus and his Roman soldiers.
What is lesser known, however, is what was happening in the Gentile world.
For centuries, the pagan nations had consulted oracles: supposedly supernatural voices that communicated through priests and priestesses at temples dedicated to Apollo and other false gods. Demonic power seemed to reign supreme.
Kings consulted these oracles before going to war, cities sought their guidance in times of calamity, and the common people lived in fear of their pronouncements.
Yet now the ancient oracles began falling silent.
The Roman writer Cicero openly questioned why the famous oracle at Delphi had ceased delivering its former prophecies. The Greek geographer Strabo likewise observed that the once-celebrated oracle of Ammon had become almost deserted.
Plutarch, himself a pagan Greek philosopher and priest at Delphi, devoted an entire treatise to this extraordinary phenomenon, entitled On the Cessation of Oracles (Περὶ τῶν ἐκλελοιπότων χρηστηρίων).
He observed that places once renowned for their supernatural pronouncements had become utterly silent. In some regions, nearly every oracle had disappeared. The pagans were perplexed, and various explanations were proposed for this remarkable decline.
But perhaps the most astonishing account preserved by Plutarch concerns an event during the reign of Emperor Tiberius—the very emperor under whom our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified.
A ship was sailing through the Mediterranean when, near the island of Paxi, a mysterious voice called out to an Egyptian pilot named Thamus. After calling him three times, the voice commanded: “When you come to Palodes, announce that Great Pan is dead.”
Pan was one of the deities worshiped by the ancient Greeks.
The passengers were terrified; Thamus nevertheless resolved to deliver the message if the sea remained calm.
When the ship approached Palodes, he turned toward the shore and cried out: “GREAT PAN IS DEAD!”
Plutarch records a tremendous groaning was heard, not from one voice, but from many, accompanied by cries of astonishment.
When Emperor Tiberius heard about this in Rome, he ordered an investigation into the matter.
This matters theologically, of course.
The prophets had expressly foretold that the coming of the Messiah would bring about the overthrow of idolatry.
Isaiah 2:18 declares: “And the idols he shall utterly abolish.”
And Zechariah 13:2: “I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered.”
Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ demonstrated His absolute authority over the powers of darkness. The demons trembled at His presence, confessed His divine identity, and obeyed His commands. But His victory did not end at Jerusalem; it went beyond Judaea and Samaria to the ends of the earth.
Following His death, resurrection, and ascension, the Gospel began spreading throughout the nations. The strongholds of pagan superstition were shaken. Ancient temples were deserted. The worship of idols was overthrown, and those who had formerly lived in darkness were brought to the knowledge of the true and living God.
In the Jewish world, the signs of the Temple were changing. In the Gentile world, the ancient oracles were being silenced. The pagan philosophers recognized that something extraordinary was happening, but they could not explain its true cause. By God's grace however, we Christians can.
The crucified and risen Christ had triumphed over the principalities and powers of darkness. The nations that had so long been held captive by idolatry were now being summoned to worship the Son of God.
As we read in Psalm 2:8: “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.”
The coming of Jesus Christ marked the beginning of the overthrow of paganism and the gathering of the Gentile nations into His kingdom.
The oracles of the false gods fell silent, while the Gospel of the risen Christ went forth into all the earth.
Have you ever wondered what became of Pontius Pilate after he condemned Christ to death?
According to Tertullian, Pilate afterwards became persuaded of the truth of the very Christ he had condemned.
The story did not end in Judaea.
Pilate sent word to Tiberius, and the claims of Christianity reached the Roman Senate.
Tiberius favored recognising Christ’s divinity. The Senate refused. Tertullian says their objection was that they had not approved the matter first.
The emperor held his ground and threatened punishment against those who accused the Christians.
Centuries later, the Puritan Isaac Ambrose recounted this remarkable testimony in Looking Unto Jesus: the governor who delivered Christ to crucifixion became a witness to his resurrection.
This is the account preserved in Tertullian’s Apology, chapters 5 and 21—a striking early Christian claim that the news of the risen Christ reached the heart of imperial Rome through the very man who had sentenced him to die.

BREAKING: Enoch Burke confronts Archbishop John McDowell in Armagh - “A traitor to the Church of Ireland ethos”
Today Enoch Burke, the teacher who was suspended from the Church of Ireland’s Wilson’s Hospital School in Co. Westmeath, confronted the Primate of All Ireland, Church of Ireland Archbishop John McDowell at his Cathedral and See House in Armagh.
Archbishop McDowell acts as Patron of Wilson’s Hospital School. In 2022, the School commanded all teachers at the school to refer to a student by a new name and the “they” pronoun. Enoch Burke refused to do so. He was suspended by the Board of Management.
Enoch Burke today asked the Primate why he had been silent while he had languished in prison for over 700 days. “I have languished in a prison cell for upholding the Church of Ireland ethos,” he said, “and for refusing to forsake Scriptural truth. What do you have to say about the Archbishop? You are silent, your lips are sealed.” He noted that the Church of Ireland doctrine that the Archbishop is sworn to uphold is “man and woman, male and female.”
Archbishop McDowell first attempted to flee the scene. He then walked out of the gates of the Cathedral and into his residence, the See House, saying he was “going about his lawful business” and refusing to provide any answer. He was accompanied by the Dean of the Cathedral who sought to shield the Archbishop from answering questions. “Look at this man, his lips are silent; this is what he does, this is what he gets away with while this [transgenderism] is being promoted in every school, in Wilson’s Hospital School,” Enoch Burke said, “You will not get away with that Archbishop McDowell.”
The encounter ended when Archbishop John McDowell and his Dean disappeared into the See House and slammed the door.
Archbishop John McDowell is the reason why Enoch Burke has spent over 700 days in prison and counting. The people of the Church of Ireland should not be deceived by this man who is sworn to maintain the Church of Ireland ethos and doctrine but is silent when the affirmation of transgenderism is forced upon the teachers and students of Church of Ireland schools.

Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse.
We gave it 19 gene therapy vectors in a spreadsheet, a mouse model of epilepsy, access to a motorize surgery rig with cameras and one goal: reduce seizures.
It picked the drug. It picked the brain region. It derived the coordinates from three papers. Then it drove the stereotaxic arms into the brain and injected 250 nanolitres while watching the entry site through the rig camera for bleeding.
A licensed vet gated every irreversible step and held a physical kill switch to stop the AI agent.
Thread on what it decided, what it saw, and the moment it refused to let me override it.
[Writing this on the spot out of excitement, but I've been 18hrs in front of my laptop coding and coordinating this, so keeping it brief and descriptive, more cohesive thoughts on this soon...]

What is the job of the civil magistrate according to Romans 13? To punish evil and promote good. If a magistrate fails to do this task then they are accountable to God for their sin (as seen in John 19:11).
But this does not give Christians the right to approve of any evil or hate any good that they do. Unfortunately today we see a lot of both, as well as confusion about what is what by comparing the actions of a civil government with the individual actions of a person as prescribed in scripture. So many things that are good for a civil magistrate to do are seen as evil by Christians who mean well but fail to understand the distinction. So many things that are wrong for a government to do are championed as good by well meaning Christians who fail to understand the distinction. They bare “the sword” and not in vain. I recommend this book to anyone interested in how I am processing my understanding of politics as a Christian nowadays. Even if you come away disagreeing with it, it’s worth the read to get a better understanding of why you may see many today thinking differently about this topic in Christian circles.

Nou pa gen okenn enterè ni pou nou vin domine pèp ayisyen an, ni pou nou mete men sou richès Ayiti.
Nou se yon peyi modès k ap devlope. Sèl sa nou vle, se pou kat teknisyen avyasyon nou yo tounen lakay yo. Epi n ap bay gang yo yon leson, gang sa yo k ap fè pèp ayisyen an soufri, ki touye moun pèp la renmen yo, k ap anpeche l viv yon lavi nòmal, lib, san laperèz.
Nou vin ann Ayiti pou nou goumen kont mechan yo.
Men sa m ap mande nou: fè nou konfyans, lapriyè sèl vrè Bondye a, epi mande L pou L geri Ayiti.
“Lè sa a si pèp ki pote non m lan lapriyè nan pye m, si yo soumèt devan mwen, si yo pran chache m ankò, si yo vire do bay vye peche yo t'ap fè yo, m'ap tande yo nan syèl kote m ye a, m'ap padonnen peche yo, m'ap fè peyi a kanpe ankò.”
2 Kwonik 7:14
Ede nou ede Ayiti.
Epi lè misyon nou an fini, n ap tounen lakay nou. Petèt jenerasyon Ayisyen k ap vini yo ap sonje nou kòm zanmi ki te vin ede yon lè.

Everything you think you know about the Salem Witch trials comes from three men.
- A merchant who hated Cotton Mather.
- A Unitarian minister who hated Puritan doctrine.
- A playwright who made it all about McCarthy.

These Virginia pastors are fulfilling their duties to God, church, and country. Amendments 1 & 2 would write the killing of children and the redefinition of marriage into the Constitution. They expose it, tear it down, and tell their people to vote NO.
Francis Schaeffer said every abortion mill should hang a banner: “Open by permission of the church.” Update that. Hang one over every capital that still murders babies and rewrites marriage: “Pagan by permission of the church.”
Pastors, if your people are voting on life and marriage this week, your pulpit should not remain silent. Faithfully preach the Word. Pray for God's mercy on Virginia. Vote!

Replying to @BerithPress
It's De laude scriptorum (In Praise of Scribes) by Johannes Trithemius, Benedictine abbot of Sponheim. Written in 1492 at a fellow abbot's request to urge monks to keep copying by hand. He claimed parchment lasts 1000 years vs ~200 for paper, copying disciplines the mind and soul, and printers skip rare texts. Then he had it printed in Mainz in 1494. He was no pure Luddite—he used the press to build his library and published many of his own works.

Don't let a bad experience with an LLM in 2025, or even three months ago, become a verdict on the whole technology. You have no idea how fast it's improving.
Seems to me a lot of people tried AI in 2025, got bad hallucinated results, and assume that’s still how good the tech is today.
Do you not realize how much better models have gotten even in just the last 6 months alone?
And progress is accelerating!
Don’t look at what people are vibe-coding in an hour. Look at what capable artists are building long term.
We can debate the ethics and the politics and the economics and the environmental impact, but if you’re trying to claim that a determined human can’t make truly incredible things with AI in 2026, I’m sorry but you’re in denial.
