The 5,000 housing units are not free: the cost is deducted from future revenues. This means that not only are we giving 500 hectares of Rasmalé land for free, we're also required to pay for the housing units.

the level of hypocrisy in this country is baffling.

How our policymakers approach to housing is fundamentally wrong.
Housing is a basic human need, not a privilege based on profession, gender, age or employment.
If priority is necessary, it must go to those most in need—the poor, persons with disabilities & vulnerable families.

Unfortunately few citizens realize the danger of weakening systemic safeguards. For example compromising key institutions such as the Supreme Court, ruining the Information Commission, and centralizing power.
The reasons for the home-schooling bill are threefold.
One, appease Muizzu's key religious constituency (read, Salaf)
Two, distract from the Rasmalé issue
Three, appear religious in the face of allegations such as cosying up to Zionists, Alabbar etc

I went through the same personal trajectory over the past ten years. It was gradual but the evidence speaks for itself. The Gaza genocide was the final straw.
Replying to @AngelicaOung
One of the reason my views are very different than they were a decade ago, is that I just don't consider China, the CCP, and Xi Jinping more "evil" than the US, the Republican Party, and Donald Trump.
Another example of how the State is killing us. Deliberately
For months, thalassaemia patients have been struggling to get their essential iron chelation medicines. Every time supplies run out, we are given barely two weeks’ worth and told to wait again. “A shipment is coming.” “It’s on the way.” “It will arrive soon.” Yet the shortages continue.
These are not medicines we take occasionally. We need them every day, for the rest of our lives. We cannot put our illness on hold until the next shipment arrives.
And this is not just a thalassaemia problem. We recognize that medicine shortages are affecting people across the Maldives, especially those living with chronic illnesses who depend on lifelong medication and regular injections.
Patients needing treatment for osteoporosis, hormonal deficiencies, and other complications have also gone eight months or longer without essential medicines. Some manage to secure a month's supply, only to face months of uncertainty again. Interrupting certain treatments can have serious, lasting consequences. This is not merely an inconvenience; it puts people's health at risk.
We understand that establishing a new state pharmaceutical system comes with challenges. But how long can the same excuses continue? State Pharma was meant to ensure access to essential medicines. Patients deserve more than shipment announcements and empty promises. They deserve a system that delivers.
And here's what makes this even harder to accept: Parliament’s Finance Committee reportedly took just 82 minutes to approve MVR 39.5 million in annual pay rises and allowances for senior officials and over 600 island councillors. When it comes to their own salaries and benefits, decisions move fast. When it comes to patients waiting months for essential medicines, suddenly everything takes time.
If MPs cite struggling constituents to justify higher salaries, shouldn't we ask why people must turn to politicians for help with basic healthcare in the first place?
We are not asking for luxuries. We are asking for the medicines our lives and health depend on.
And to those responsible: if you cannot even ensure that people have access to essential medicines, do the country a favor and resign. Go home. If you're not willing to do that, then stop making excuses, get your act together, and do the job you're being paid to do. The public didn't elect you to make promises. They elected you to deliver.
Enough promises. Enough excuses. Patients need their medicines, not another announcement that they're on the way.

Is it true this project was directly awarded?
It covers the entire Addu Link Road, yet MP Azan appears to have been the only MP present at the signing ceremony.
So @axanner, as a ruling-party MP and a member of the Public Accounts Committee, did you question why open tender was bypassed and whether the public got a fair deal?
What gave you confidence that no other company could offer a competitive contractor-finance deal?

We live in a country where the healthcare our Political leader and MPs give us isn’t good enough for their families, the education isn’t good enough for their children, the banks for their money, the food for their tables, or public services for their needs.
They build one system for us and another for themselves.
And the cruel irony? Both systems are paid for with OUR tax money.
If what they’ve built is good enough for us, why isn’t it good enough for them?
Has there ever been a group that's more hypocritical than Salaf?

Add to the list:
Compromised our Constitution; sees himself a king. He's also centralized power, decapitated the judiciary and undermined the constitutional structure and systems.
Muizzu has to go.
Muizzu has totally compromised everything that we hold dear: Our sovereignty and religious unity.
Not only this, he’s also compromising tourism, the industry on which our economy at present is totally dependent on.
These are the fundamentals on which our survival as a nation-state revolve around. Jeopardising these things mean risking our very existence as a nation-state.
He has almost destroyed MACL. And he is after destroying BML. The shareholders’ equity of BML currently stand at MVR 17.36 billion.
Just imagine what will happen to our economy if BML goes bankrupt. Can we afford such things? If depositors lose trust in the bank, it could trigger a “run on the bank” situation.
Maldives became the world’s premier tourism destination not by a “Residency by Visa” regime, or even with “township” developments under a nonsensical “SEZ law”.
Maldivians are totally against the sale of our precious lands to foreigners, be they Arabs or others, esp. Muslim Zionists like Alabbar.
Muizzu wants to remain in power even at the expense of destroying the tourism industry. He is holding on to power with the utility of the following means:
1. Intimidation
2. Bribery
3. Blackmail
The man is totally consumed by avarice and ego.
Without a doubt he’s a narcissist, a psychopath and an egomaniac.
The greenback is now trading at 23.50. What more failure do you need to impeach and remove Muizzu from power? Does anyone have any excuse at all?

Between 2018 and 2026, Maldivian taxpayers have paid former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom 8,998,333.33 in former presidential allowances.
That is approximately 2,737 every single day for 9 years straight.
As a country, we need to start a serious debate about this.
It is not that we believe former presidents should receive no allowances. Rather, how much we pay, how we determine those amounts, and how long we continue paying them must reflect the economic realities of the Maldives.
After MPs’ salaries, the next petition should address former presidents’ allowances and benefits. It’s time to start this debate.
Taxpayers have paid so far
Maumoon: 72 million
Nasheed: 43 million
Waheed: 25 million
Yameen: 9 million
Solih: 10 million
Total: 159 million.
These payments will continue, and future former presidents will become eligible too.
As a nation, we must ask, can we afford this? Are these allowances proportionate to our economic reality, national income and the living standards of ordinary Maldivians?
Public money should reflect public priorities.
