I want to share this research was inspired by me-search: everyday yoga practice that involves breathing and meditation and contemplation to know more biologically!
Excited to share new work from our lab showing, for the first time, a link between breathing dysregulation, stress responses, and energy metabolism via a neuropeptide receptor mechanism.
This opens new ways for understanding brain–body interactions! biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Today marks a historic milestone for metabolic psychiatry!
Baszucki Group is launching the Global Network for the Advancement of Metabolic Psychiatry (MetPsy), alongside a $20 million investment to establish the McLean Center for Metabolic Psychiatry at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate.
For years, I've argued that mental disorders can be understood as metabolic disorders impacting the brain. Advancing this field requires rigorous scientific research, innovative clinical care, and education and training to bring emerging discoveries into clinical practice.
This investment will help advance all three.
I'm particularly excited to be leading the education and training initiatives at both McLean Hospital and MH². We'll be developing clinical case conferences, journal clubs, symposia, CME programs, and other opportunities for clinicians and scientists to learn, collaborate, and help shape the future of metabolic psychiatry.
I am deeply grateful to Baszucki Group for their extraordinary commitment to this field and to the many researchers, clinicians, patients, and families who have helped bring us to this moment.
Patients deserve better treatments, and together, we have an opportunity to transform mental health care.

A large-scale mapping study reveals the functional architecture of the human insula, showing how this deep brain region tracks bodily sensations like heat, tingling, and nausea. This work clarifies how the brain integrates internal physiological states into conscious experience.

A little late, but thrilled about Scott’s appointment as Chair of Neuroscience and the opportunity to strengthen brain–body research. He has been a wonderful mentor, a strong supporter of our lab’s multidisciplinary brain-body work, and an outstanding collaborator. Amazing news!
We are INCREDIBLY EXCITED to share that @ScottRussoPhD has been appointed Chair of #NashNeuroscience @IcahnMountSinai. Dr. Russo is a distinguished neuroscientist, visionary leader & mentor. We couldn't be happier for the Department of Neuroscience! Congratulations, Dr. Russo! 🎉
