A work in progress, but I used @claudeai to organize all the Chicago price theory problems @irwincollier has collected from the archives. Access the database here: bryancutsinger.com/teaching/… Suggestions welcome.

I’m admittedly biased, but Ralphie is the coolest mascot in college football.
A buffalo is sprinting across the field😭😭😭 This has to be the craziest college tradition we’ve seen on this entire trip.

A @nytimes essay says abolish business schools. That’s a false dichotomy. The fix is more pluralism, not less: open doors 🚪, don’t close them. In today’s @NRO w/ @PerBylund @Escalantism @NicolaiFoss @petergklein @SamueleMurtinu & Don Siegel 🔗⬇️

New Stanford Childcare Model shows that reducing regulatory compliance costs by 20% reduces childcare prices and increases teacher wages. Our @ArchbridgeInst Child Care Regulation Index identifies next steps for cutting down on compliance costs in each individual state.

It was an honor to represent the United States as delegate to the OECD’s Working Party No. 1 on Macroeconomic and Structural Policy Analysis in Paris, and to discuss President Trump’s Super Intelligence Action Plan with our allies.

MMTers always act like "just print money bro" is a crude caricature and really it's about the fact that resource constraints matter not fiscal constraints (true!), and then their whole practical program hinges on "resource constraints are always slack" lmao
The entire Financial Times editorial board has published a piece urging Lula to cut government spending and appoint a finance minister who enjoys the confidence of investors. I get the impression that the FT editorial board has never opened an economics book other than some outdated introductory macroeconomics textbook, perhaps something by Mankiw. Otherwise, it's hard to explain such astonishing arrogance and economic ignorance. Lula and the Brazilian people have absolutely no reason to bow to the demands of financial markets. Brazil is Latin America's largest economy, a major regional power, and a country with a high degree of monetary sovereignty. Around 97% of the central government's debt is denominated in its own currency, the Brazilian real. The relationship between the state and financial markets is therefore nothing like the FT portrays it. Brazil is not dependent on financial markets. On the contrary, financial markets depend on government spending, which creates financial assets for the private sector, while government debt denominated in the national currency is one of the instruments through which those assets are held. What Brazil needs is not capitulation to financial markets, but an independent economic policy focused on expanding production, creating jobs, and improving people's living standards. Armed with the insights of heterodox economic theory, Brazil has the potential to show the world what a genuine economic miracle looks like. ft.com/content/79785581-88c2…

Today's papers, on endogenous property rights at the technology frontier, bring to mind Harold Demsetz's work, especially this paper, a classic in @MasonEconomics circles. Of course @MartinBeraja, a U Chicago Ph.D., discusses Demsetz at some length in his paper.
Today we kick off a PhD reading group at @UCBerkeley on Growth, Technology, and Innovation. Sessions on innovation and automation, property rights, and knowledge in organizations — old classics and new work on AI, side by side, built around gaps where the next papers should be. Here is the reading list for those who are interested.

Excited to share this new work on mapping economic theory with agentic AI! The astonishing rise in AI math capability can help us understand formal models in economics. We do it by using LLM agents to represent theory papers as graphs. See thread by @andreacicca_ here:
AI is increasingly used to find errors in research. But which ones actually matter and deserve our attention? Our new paper with @ellliottt and @sergallet maps the logic of economic models into claim graphs to assess how much an error changes their conclusions.

There's no incentive to leave if California's net wealth tax is a one-off, says advocate @gabriel_zucman, author of an annual *global* wealth tax proposal & whose own paper on California's said "if Proposition 40 passes...it could encourage...a permanent annual wealth tax."
Zucman here is obviously right. In the paper, billionaires leave California forever even though there will not be next wealth tax. So in paper billionaires are irrational or there is some hidden assumption that California will levy next one time wealth tax only when they come back
