Almost every load-bearing claim involves: “policy advisers in Beijing” “people familiar with the matter” “people close to Beijing’s decision-making” “Chinese officials” This isn't the first time. In November 2025, she put out two articles pushing the same narrative about the US selling out Japan, saying that Trump told Takaichi to "lower the volume on Taiwan." The Japanese government publicly denied it and many Japanese journalists noted the byline and the Beijing-side sourcing. It was the same playbook involving anonymous Chinese/US-briefed sources and a narrative that isolates an ally and flatters Beijing’s grievance. So there's now a consistent run of Taiwan stories that casts Xi as the patient strategist and Trump as the flaky variable, ready to fold / negotiate on Taiwan. Color me skeptical at this point.
