I’ve now been sent another complaint about the Oxford University lecturer dubbed ‘Boob Man’ - sent to St Hilda’s College in June. This one also appears to have gone unanswered. That brings the total number of complaints I’ve personally seen to four. There may well be more. I’m currently arranging permission to share the latest letter, with appropriate redactions to protect identities. But here’s my question. How many complaints does it take for a university to recognise a potential safeguarding issue - and at least investigate the concerns being raised? I don’t care if someone calls me a ‘transphobe’. In fact, I’ve reached the point where I take it as a compliment. Because it’s increasingly used to describe women who stand up for their sex-based rights. And the men who support them. Why would I be insulted by that? But while I’m not offended by the word, I am wary of people who use it. Because it tells me something about their priorities. That they believe men’s identities and feelings matter more than the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls. And that’s not someone whose judgement I’d be inclined to trust.
