In Baku today it is as if there are five @DavidLammy clones. He is everywhere at COP & making a huge & hugely positive impression.  I can’t exaggerate how great it is to have such a senior figure drag the focus away from the technocratic one-dimensional focus on carbon counting towards championing the actual natural world we all depend on and without which we haven’t a hope of stabilising the climate. It is wonderful to see & so good to have the UK back & leading on this, the most important cause of all 👏🌎👏

One of the very best “how did Trump happen” pieces from the great @alexmassie. Shrewd, subtle, fair and right. alexmassie.substack.com/

It is in Britain’s national self interest to tackle the climate crisis. It is the only way to keep our country safe. That is why this Government is showing international leadership at COP29.
'The reason we're here is frankly national self interest' Energy Secretary Ed Miliband spoke to #BBCBreakfast from COP29 in Azerbaijan about what can be achieved, despite many world leaders missing the conference on climate change bbc.co.uk/news/live/cly0gzxg…

I am pleased to see that the PM went to France today. U.K.-French Defence co-operation has never been more needed. We are facing the greatest threat to European peace since the 1930's. We now need to see this Entente used to ensure that Russia cannot and does not win in Ukraine.

From the daily chat with the morning paper to helping out when a customer is in a pinch, shopworkers provide for their communities. Threatening them is unacceptable - and yet the reality is that almost half of all shopworkers have been threatened in the workplace. #Respect24

Today’s @thetimes column is about the mistakes I and others on the left made when Trump won in 2016, and how they led to his win again eight years later I’m a rare Democrat who admits the loss is our fault thetimes.com/article/cb5754d…

Morning I thrown some words at page about the recent US election - a bit of a rambling piece that takes in Beyonce, Springsteen and Oliver Anthony Everyone else has commented, so why not me - hopefully it isn’t simply me repeating what others have said open.substack.com/pub/newspe…

Why can’t Britain build anything anymore? The news this week of the £100m ‘bat tunnel’ gave us some clues. Here’s the story of this tunnel, which has been 12 years in the making, and some thoughts on what it tells us

Please read this. It's literally been 8 years in the writing. The first wave of tech disruption of democracy 2016-2024 is over. What starts now is something much, much worse: the age of information chaos. 1/ theguardian.com/commentisfre…

On Remembrance Day, London honours those who’ve given their lives for our city and country. City Hall was lit in red this weekend to commemorate the bravery and dedication of the men and women of our armed services. #ArmisticeDay
