UK speech regulator Ofcom asked Meta, WhatsApp, X and TikTok for ongoing data on what people in Britain post, who sees it, how much gets taken down, and how fast, all broken down by age. The companies asked why. The UK High Court has now ruled that Ofcom doesn’t have to say. The platforms, on the other hand, had to prove in detail that complying would be a burden. X said it would cost millions of pounds and hundreds of hours of work. The court said that wasn’t detailed enough. Data sorted by age requires the platforms to know every user’s age, and a regulator that can demand it on a whim is laying the groundwork for digital ID one request at a time. reclaimthenet.org/uk-high-co…

"Act of war": sending tanks streaming across the north German plain (arch.); posting memes on Facebook; melting our Magnums, probably.

Our politicians need to stop treating us like children and be straight with us. Britain simply must increase its defence budget to whatever it takes to regularly patch the software in Aldi's freezers.

ARRESTED WITH SARAH HELM'S WORDS A woman has just been arrested outside the US Embassy in London for holding a sign with words mirroring the ones that the National Security Advisor's wife tweeted, and for which @metpoliceuk declared "did not meet the criminal threshold".

This is the statement issued by the Met Police about the Defend Our Juries demonstration today. Commander Adam Slonecki, from Scotland Yard, said: “All those intending on coming to this event know that supporting a proscribed organisation is unlawful – they are essentially meeting to purposefully commit a crime.” This is a remarkable contrual of the law and extent of police powers. Surely it cannot be right that someone protesting against the Government’s decision to proscribe an organisation is automatically interpreted by the Met Police as supporting that organisation and is therefore committing an arrest-able offence. This is especially the case when the proscription is being challenged in the courts. I believe the government and parliament made the wrong decision in proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and I continue to call for its deproscription by the government. If the people turning up today to demonstrate against the proscription of Palestine Action are to be arrested for simply turning up, are we all to be criminalised for suggesting the government got this wrong?

It’s seriously wild that Parliament has heard detailed statements on, amongst other things: the Holocaust, the Omagh bombing, Hillsborough, Aberfan, & the 7/7 terrorist attacks. But the only time in 200 years they’ve needed a trigger warning was @Jebadoo2 pitching up to tell them it was wrong to sterilise autistic gay teenagers.

I've got a great idea for a new game show! We make half a group of celebrities wear green underpants and the rest have to guess who they are. For reasons which will always be unclear, the celebs will turn into a group of tearful and indignant Miss Marples. It'll be riveting!

Masked Israeli terrorist settlers attacked diplomatic vehicles carrying representatives from France, Belgium, and Poland during their visit to the village of al-Taybeh during the olive harvest season. The settlers smashed the window of a Belgian consular vehicle and demanded to see identity documents. Testimonies document the terrorist assault on Bernard Baudoux, mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries in northern France, who was reportedly knocked to the ground. This brazen attack on diplomatic representatives and vehicles is yet another example of the escalating terrorism perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and international representatives, in full view of the Israeli occupation authorities.

It's interesting how "more devolution" in Labour speak now means Holyrood should give more of its powers to the local councils, not that Westminster should give more of its powers to Holyrood.

"I’m not saying there’s going to be industrial war with tanks rolling across the north German plain." Having redefined "terrorism" to include painting bits of things red, the state moves on to redefining "war" to include posting memes on Facebook. theguardian.com/technology/2…

Daniel is gay. He should not have to defend the idea that open, honest conversations can protect young people. The Draft Conversion Practices Bill could make families and professionals afraid to ask whether a child who says they are trans may be lesbian, gay or bisexual. Hear why Daniel opposes it. BREAKING: 🇵🇱🇮🇱 Israel spied on all of Poland using software—allegedly intended for catching criminals—that it had sold to the country Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called the Pegasus spyware scandal a "crime against the state," accusing the previous PiS government of exposing sensitive data on thousands of Polish citizens, including opposition figures and independent prosecutors, to Israeli company NSO Group without oversight. Tusk said Poland spent over PLN 60 million on the spyware, including PLN 25 million from a fund for crime victims and over PLN 30 million paid to the Israeli supplier. He said Polish intelligence confirmed that Israeli entities controlled the system, while its contract restricted surveillance of Russian, Belarusian, and North Korean numbers but permitted monitoring of Polish, French, and German citizens. He called the affair one of Poland's biggest scandals since the fall of communism and vowed to hold those responsible accountable.
