It's quite remarkable that Shadi Hamid has had a concept for two decades that Islamist movements can be good faithed democratic participants, but because the most good faith, successful, and pro-democracy Islamist party in the middle east is Israeli he never mentions it.
It's quite remarkable that that Israel's Jewish opposition parties would rather lose then accept being in a coalition with Arabs. The reason is obvious enough: they're not all that different from Netanyahu. Parliamentary democracy is supposed to make you compromise in order achieve a majority of seats. But sometimes ideology (and racism) takes precedence over the desire for power.

Netanyahu's attack on Qatar is a favor under duress. Netanyahu needs Qatar and its stance towards Hamas to complete a prisoner exchange deal to bring back the hostages, men and women. If Netanyahu pushes Qatar out, he will be left without an effective mediator who contributed to the success of a deal a few weeks ago. The question is whether Netanyahu and Smotrich are interested in returning the kidnapped as a top priority or not. I have a feeling that the leak of Netanyahu's recording against Qatar, which the censorship approved, was not against Netanyahu's opinion.
