Major win for kids! 50 AGs fought hard for the largest Big Tech settlement ever and historic changes to Meta’s platforms. YouTube, Roblox, TikTok, and Snapchat should be next. Harmful platforms must have adequate protections for children, and better tools for parents. 1/2

52 AGs just got Meta to agree to defaults that actually protect teens, like time limits, night mode, muted school-hours notifications, and private accounts. What's more, this, plus the states that have passed acutal age verification laws, like ASAA (i.e., TX, UT, AL, and LA), makes those states the safest places for children online in the country from Meta! Regardless, this is a significant step forward for child safety! TikTok, Google, and Snap have no excuse left. Match it and join Meta here. This is especially true for Google, that has spent billions of dollars at the state and federal levels to fight targeted solutions like KOSA and ASAA. Do the right thing for once in your corporate life (this goes triple for Apple)!

While Meta is certainly paying for its conduct, this was never just about the money. Kids deserve a childhood that isn’t measured in likes and followers. The online protections delivered by this settlement will bring a generational change. More: kentucky.gov/Pages/Activity-…

💔$ won't bring teens like Elijah Heacock and Gavin Guffey back from the grave, but the RELENTLESS advocacy of their families together with survivor parents like Lori Schott, Maurine Molak, Brian Montgomery, Julianna Arnold, the Minors, and Christine McComas brought this settlement. Rest in Eternal Peace to the heavenly angels celebrating this victory w/us. @NCOSE @brandonguffeysc @ptogetheraction @parents4sos @Parents_Rise @maurinemolak @Loriaschott @fairplayforkids @HaleyMcNamara @lynns_warriors @twestes @BetterFuture_AI @sachalouise

Meta just agreed to pay up to $16.7 BILLION over allegations that it harmed children. And the settlement doesn’t stop at a payout. Meta will be required to implement new safeguards, including limits on teen usage, nighttime restrictions, and stronger protections for young users. This is what accountability looks like. Children’s safety cannot be an afterthought. buff.ly/OajhbJE #Meta #ChildSafety #KidsOnlineSafety #MarkZuckerberg #NCOSE #EndExploitation

First, Big Tech said the law was impossible to implement...then it was seamlessly implemented. They said it was unconstitutional...SCOTUS unanimously disagreed. Now they call it "big gov't"...but parents call it basic child safety. #txlege thetexan.news/judicial/scotu…

🚨 The Supreme Court allowed Texas to continue enforcing its App Store Accountability Act, which requires age verification and parental consent before minors can download apps or make in-app purchases.

Big win for Texas families tonight. 🚨 The Fifth Circuit has stayed the injunction against Texas’s App Store Accountability Act — legislation I proudly authored as SB 2420. That means app stores must once again verify ages and obtain parental consent before minors can download apps. Parents deserve meaningful tools to protect their children online, and Texas is continuing to lead the way in standing up to Big Tech and putting kids first. 👏🇨🇱 digitalchildhoodalliance.org…

NCOSE, joined by than 100 child protection organizations are calling on Congress to oppose the so-called “Parents Over Platforms Act,” warning it would undermine state online safety laws and protect Big Tech from accountability. Families need stronger protections for kids online, not legislation that weakens them. “The deceptively named Parents over Platforms Act (POPA) should be aptly named Platforms over Parents Act" said @RepJames. POPA relies on self-reported age which “has repeatedly failed to keep our children safe.” 88% of parents instead support the App Store Accountability Act!
