Ahead of the Budget, we recently met with Minister @stephenctimms, with @SteveDarlingMP and @lukeakehurst MP to discuss our Access to Work report. Up to 50,000 disabled people could leave the workforce without the scheme. We urge the government to prioritise its funding.

Great chat with Minister Stephen Timms MP, Steve Darling MP and Chloe Schendel-Wilson (Co-Founder and Director of the Disability Policy Centre) to discuss the Access to Work scheme. In 2009, I was hit by a sudden onset neurological illness called POEMS Syndrome. That is when I first learned about and subsequently benefitted from the scheme. Access to Work is a publicly funded employment scheme that helps disabled people start or stay in work by offering workplace equipment, money towards travel if public transport is inaccessible or an interpreter or support worker. New research shows that without the scheme it is estimated that up to 50,000 disabled people could find themselves out of work. I am calling on the government to back the scheme with more funding, faster processing and much greater visibility.

Wonderful to hear Baroness Campbell's AI-created voice @UKHouseofLords for the first time; a first for @UKParliament & among the first in any legislature worldwide. More than a tech milestone, it's very much HER voice, a powerful one for a leading disability rights campaigner📣

This is very welcome news from @patmcfaddenmp, Secretary of State for Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We know young people with a learning disability are disproportionately likely to not have a job, not have access to training or be let down by the education system.
Expansion of Jobs Guarantee to put young disabled people at the front of the queue. This is the kind of change we need.

On Monday, we brought together sector leaders for a roundtable in Parliament on ‘Occupational Health and improving the lives of disabled people’. Chaired by @lukeakehurst MP, we discussed how government can support businesses of all sizes to create healthier workplaces for all.

We are thrilled to see Andy Burnham introduce 24/7 free bus travel for disabled people across England. We first wrote to him about this in 2022. Since then, @TransportForAll, Whizz Kidz and @tomgordonLD MP have also championed this cause. This has been a huge success. 🎉

While Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is not, and shouldn't be, linked to work, our research shows that it plays a vital role in keeping many Disabled people in their jobs. Read the report, available in summary, Easy Read and BSL: inclusionlondon.org.uk/campa…
