We should not be celebrating technology that can deceive people and blur the distinction between what's real and what's fake!
It should be illegal -- plain and simple -- for any AI to impersonate a human being without a clear and visible disclaimer that it is, in fact, AI.
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test.
48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video.
It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard.

NAOMI KLIEIN to SAM ALTMAN:
"...you ingested the entire written output of human civilization without consent, without compensation and without credit to build a system whose primary commercial application is eliminating the jobs of the people whose work you consumed.
You are not 'liberating human creativity' -- you are strip-mining it and selling it back at a markup while calling the theft 'training data'."

Men can choose to not do this. Men can choose to treat women the way they would like to be treated (I suspect that most men, when extremely drunk and high on ketamine and having reluctantly consented to some limited sexual activity, would not find it pleasant to have their condition advertised as “free ass” to random men on Snapchat). We can create a culture in which men who treat women this way are considered reprehensible, pathetic, and worthy of scorn, whether or not they have technically committed a crime.

The Kennedy Center’s Grand Foyer is 630' long and 63' high. The crystal chandeliers were hand-blown by @orrefors and an official gift by the Kingdom of @Sweden in 1971. The huge mirrors at left were a gift the Kingdom of @Belgium on behalf of its people and nation.
A detail worth noting in the Kennedy Center madness is a magnificent 12,000 crystal lighting array at the Opera House created by J & L Lobmeyr, who also made chandeliers for the Vienna State Opera and Schönbrunn Palace. It's an official gift from the Republic of Austria, meant as a permanent memorial to President Kennedy.

This story is also a tale of two social media platforms. Seven of the videos were posted to Bluesky, but most were posted to X. Bluesky removed the inauthentic accounts. X did nothing. @elonmusk you there?

Washington journalism is in a moment of generational change. We’re rising to meet it.
We cover politics and policy and the people who shape life in Washington — not just at the White House and in Congress, but at the Wilson Building, at Northwest Stadium and in the neighborhoods where we live.
Welcome to The Washington Sun.

The Court's majority rules that the National Trust for Historic Preservation has no standing to sue over the White House ballroom construction. So that raises a question - who has standing to stop a President from spending money not approved by Congress?

This one weird trick that economists don't want you to know about: Simply don't pay your suppliers for the goods you sell and undercut your competition.
WaPo: Trump lauded low prices at Freedom Fuel. A supplier says some gas wasn't paid for.
Mansfield Oil Company alleges in a lawsuit that a distributor never paid for gas that was supplied to some Freedom Fuel stations.

Stars and Stripes editor Erik Slavin told CBS today: "I received the notice of proposed separation today and I’m reviewing it. I’ll respond through the required process. According to the notice, I am being fired for stating in a CBS interview that censorship of news for service members would constitute a red line. The Pentagon's public affairs office has charged me with insubordination.
I stand by the principle that Stars and Stripes must remain editorially independent, as required by law and by the department’s own policies."
