.@MarekMenkiszak unpacks the problems with the Russian approach to European security (as more or less transmitted by Jared Kushner). It’s possible to come up ideas for post-Ukraine War security, but start with operational parts of Charter of Paris and not with Kremlin positions.
Russia has achieved a significant political success. The Russian demand—made in the context of resolving the conflict with Ukraine—to address the European security architecture (effectively seeking its revision) and to provide security guarantees to Russia has been taken up by American negotiators and the President. Of the five areas of discussion, all but one—crisis communications (i.e., permanent security consultations, greater military transparency, reciprocal measures to reduce escalation risk, and enduring framework for security and stability)—contain potential pitfalls and risks. The list of topics was clearly inspired by Russian demands, which had already been articulated in the ultimatum Russia issued to the U.S. and NATO in December 2021, prior to the start of its aggression against Ukraine. We discussed this in a piece for @OSW_eng osw.waw.pl/en/publikacje/ana… The core of this proposal was the creation of a de facto buffer zone—a partially demilitarized area along NATO’s eastern flank—and the reversal of most of the military consequences resulting from NATO’s enlargement in 1999 and 2004. Moscow is now likely to push for similar concessions, including: 1. Guarantees that post-Soviet states will not be admitted to NATO, and an end to military cooperation with them. 2. A ban on the deployment in Europe of weapons systems (particularly missiles) capable of striking targets deep within Russian territory. 3. The withdrawal of Allied forces from NATO’s eastern flank states. ... 4. A prohibition on the deployment of nuclear weapons outside the territories of the states that possess them (the U.S., the United Kingdom, and France). 5. Refraining from military activities (exercises, patrols, etc.) in the vicinity of Russia’s land and maritime borders, as well as its airspace (within zones to be defined by Russia itself). Clearly, given the existing strategic imbalance in Russia’s favor—with its deployment of nuclear weapons and intermediate-range missiles in the immediate vicinity of NATO, and its capacity for the rapid redeployment of forces from its Asian territory—any notion of symmetrical restrictions would be purely illusory. Russia is well aware that its demands are unacceptable to European nations, particularly those on NATO’s northeastern flank. It is banking on an increase in internal tensions within the Alliance, a halt to the redeployment of U.S. forces to the eastern flank, and the shifting of blame onto the Europeans for the lack of progress in the peace process.

People sometimes assume Wojtek was some sort of mascot but no, he held the substantive (not honorary) rank of corporal and was a serving soldier and an integral part of his company
Wojtek, a bear that became a soldier, was in the Polish Army and helped the Polish II Corps of Gen. Władysław Anders at Monte Cassino. On 7 November 2015, Wojtek’s statue was unveiled in Edinburgh by Cllr Aileen Orr, author of "Wojtek the Bear - Polish War Hero", and founder of the Wojtek Memorial Trust. We were honoured to be at the unveiling 11 years ago.

Stop repeating the Kremlin-invented, misleading tautology “NATO infrastructure in Scandinavia and the Baltic states.” All infrastructure in the Baltic states and Scandinavia IS NATO infrastructure. One cannot and will not "withdraw" it from NATO member states.
According to media reports, the Kremlin has conveyed to the US a proposal for a two-stage ceasefire, which includes an energy truce until the New Year and preparations for a full-fledged peace agreement by spring 2027. At the same time, Russian officials publicly reject the idea of temporary truces in specific sectors. putin proposes preparing a full-fledged peace agreement by spring 2027 — it is reported that dmitriev, during negotiations with Trump and Kushner, voiced a number of RF conditions. In particular, these are: • An energy truce is possible on the condition of halting Ukrainian strikes on Russian "civilian infrastructure," primarily oil and gas facilities. • Russia allows for a territorial compromise while preserving Ukrainian control over the un occupied part of Donbas. • However, it demands a reduction in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and armaments, concessions regarding the Russian language and the Russian Orthodox Church. • Also, the withdrawal of NATO infrastructure from the Baltic states and Scandinavia. • The Kremlin may agree to the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine exclusively in the western regions, provided that Russian demands are met.

On Thursday I wrote about the 2014 injunction Russell Brand obtained against a woman who accused him of assault. I've now obtained the final order. It's breathtaking. She had no lawyer. No trial. Yet she was silenced for life - even barred from speaking to the police. 🧵:

If this meeting will in any way discuss ending of Ukrainian war without direct participation of victim state Ukraine and its European supporters it will hurt Beijin’s international reputation and make it ally of possible Pact (deal) similar to 23.08.1939 called Hitler-Stalin Pact

This seems a strange way to describe someone who fought at the Somme, who lost nearly all his closest friends in battle, who drank the nectar of ancient poetry with C. S. Lewis, who wholly & irrevocably re-invented the fantasy genre.

Now Russell Brand's been convicted of rape, we need to talk about Sylvie Berki. Because she can't speak for herself. In 2014, Ms Berki said she'd been assaulted by Russell Brand. But if she talks about it, even now, she risks jail.

Very odd headline. Tolkien was born in the Orange Free State, fought at the Somme, was a professor at Oxford in its 20th century prime. I mean sure he wasn’t Jimi Hendrix, settled down with a family, but hardly a dull life. His adventures showed up in his writing.

russia is losing its grip on countries around the world - time to intensify terror attacks on Europe, and of course use the most serious of weapons: the maps with red arrows 🙄
🇷🇺🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪‼️ BALTIC STATES PREPARE FOR A POTENTIAL RUSSIAN ATTACK AS LITHUANIA AND LATVIA LAUNCH URGENT CROSS-BORDER EVACUATION DRILLS! Amid warnings about the possibility of Russian aggression against the Baltic states in the coming months, Lithuania and Latvia have launched joint civilian evacuation exercises, according to the Baltic news outlet Delfi. The drills began on November 5 and are designed to test how both countries would evacuate civilians across their shared border during a major security crisis. Today, volunteers are being transported from Daugavpils, Latvia, to Pasvalys, Lithuania. On November 10, the evacuation exercise will take place in the opposite direction, from Šiauliai, Lithuania, to Ķekava, Latvia. Authorities will test the entire evacuation process, including emergency notifications, civilian registration, transportation, temporary accommodation and food distribution. Special attention will be given to families with young children, elderly residents and people with disabilities. 🔥 The exercises demonstrate how seriously the Baltic states are preparing for potential security emergencies involving Russia. Cross-border evacuation coordination could become essential during a major military crisis, particularly for vulnerable civilians. However, the drills themselves do not establish that a Russian invasion is imminent. See the latest updates with us: @NSTRIKE1231
