Members of the Affected Citizens of Teesta (ACT), a Lepcha organisation campaigning to protect Dzongu and the Teesta River from large hydropower projects, began a four-day foot march from Phidang in Dzongu on July 24. The march marks 19 years of ACT's movement against hydropower development in Sikkim. Organised under the theme "Teesta Matters to Me," the march began after a traditional Lepcha ritual, with activists, local residents and supporters seeking blessings before setting out for Melli. today marks the 11th day of social activist Amit Bhatnagar's hunger strike. he has lost over 6 kg while standing with Adivasi families in Bundelkhand resisting the Ken–Betwa Link Project by staging a 'Fansi Satyagraha.' these communities have lost their homes, forests and livelihoods, while many are still fighting for fair compensation and rehabilitation that was promised but never delivered. save Adivasis from Modi's best friends Adani and Ambani. this deserves national attention. #KenBetwa #Bundelkhand #AdivasiRights

The forest dept in Delhi is planning a 10 acre Miyawaki forest along SP Marg in the Central Ridge. Experts call it a terrible idea, stating high density plantation is not ecological restoration.

Hit the 🎯 This explains why we see some random blobs on these maps. More weather stations is what I'll keep advocating for! We have SO much to learn from the Himalayan microclimates, you'll be surprised some areas near Tso Moriri in Ladakh can drop close to -45 or -50°C. We're missing out on so much data!
#Thread In these temperature #maps of India Meterological Department, some of you might have wondered why would it show high temperatuers (30 to 38) on the top of Himalayas over Aksai chin in Ladakh, Gangotri in Uttarakhand, Arunachal etc. ... Explanation in subsequent tweets

Rightly said why is the most holiest city of Sikhs being neglected with piles of garbage all over ? What exactly is there that is impossible @mcamritsar has very serious questions to answer 👇🏼
What exactly is the reason or the hurdles that @mcamritsar finds it difficult to overcome? The roads leading to the Golden Temple are extremely filthy and strewn with garbage, inspite of civil society urging the Municipal Corporation to keep the Old Walled City of Amritsar of garbage free ? This city is the heart of Entire Punjab, especially the devotees . We want action taken not just a mere eyewash

Anantha passed away this morning, around 3 am on 18 April. He went away peacefully. An end that he had prepared himself and all of us for. Leading the kind of life he did and facing death the way he did should be an aspiration for all of us. Ananthapadmanabhan Guruswamy would be remembered for many of his accomplishments and contributions: CEO of Amnesty International in India, the International Programme Director at Greenpeace, CEO of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) and the founder of Socrates. An alumnus of IIT Madras and a former teacher at The School – Krishnamurti Foundation India, he would be remembered as one of the most gifted and amazing minds that could think across fields and come up with out of box solutions. Colleagues in Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan would remember him as an unending source of ideas and energy for our work. We met through his partner Kavita Kuruganti. Over the last five years, I had the honour of calling him my friend — actually, my guide and life coach. The beautiful way he embraced cancer and prepared for death has been a life lesson for me. His body would be kept at home (#606, Petunia Block, Sankalp Central Park, Yadavagiri, Mysuru) till 3pm today before being taken for cremation. Cremation will be done at 4pm in Gokulam. Alvida Ananth, as you begin your ananta journey. Till we join!
