Interested in the complexity of gene expression in Archaea? We have three open postdoc positions focussing on the coupling of transcription and translation using functional genomics, structural biology and molecular biology in Finn Werner's lab at UCL. Links below!
Functional genomics focussed:

We are pleased to share our work on the evolution of translation initiation now published in Nature Communications. Take a look at leaderless mRNAs and eS26 in the small ribosomal subunit of Saccharolobus solfataricus. rdcu.be/d5pgg
Exciting to see this! Once considered the only transcription co-activator/regulator conserved between eukaryotes and archaea, it turns out Mbf1 does actually do something entirely different, sorting out ribosome collisions, at least in eukaryotes.
Online Now: Multiprotein bridging factor 1 is required for robust activation of the integrated stress response on collided ribosomes dlvr.it/TGGX7c

Happy to share our new paper on the characterization of MSTV1, an archaeal virus infecting Methanobrevibacter smithii, the dominant archaeon in the human gut. This was a beautiful collaboration between
@mkrupovic and @SGribaldo labs. 👇🧵nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
Our review on the chromatin transcription relationship in archaea is out: doi.org/10.1111/mmi.15302. ChIP-exo profiles show how chromatin protein Cren7 contributes to the formation of chromatin-free regions around promoters in archaea lacking histones first seen by @georgimarinov.

I never imagined that there would be a paper from my lab titled "The structural basis of ..." but first author @2Magdalena1 and the very collaborative archaeal RNA polymerase made it work 😀. Read it here: academic.oup.com/nar/article…. Thank you also to our partners @lab_engel 🤝!
Happy new year and happy new pre-print biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… with cryo-EM structures of the archaeal RNA polymerase in its apo state and during elongation w/ and w/o Spt4/5 featuring some distinct archaeal features. #Archaea #cryoEM #transcription Some key findings 🧵

Our paper on a DNA-bridging histone variant from archaea is out! Great collaboration with Remus Dame lab!! When AF2 predictions and biochemical data support a tetramer, but the crystal structure shows a dimer conformation ... nature.com/articles/s42003-0…

Our in-depth study of the CRISPR array-specific chromatin protein Cbp1 is now on biorxiv. We show that Cbp1 recruits the chromatin protein Cren7 to CRISPR spacers favouring transcription from the leader promoter over spacer-internal cryptic promoters...
