If you think the story between Yemen and Saudi Arabia has just begun, you are far detached from reality. The Saudi aggression against Yemen began on March 26, 2015, with the very first airstrike targeting Sana'a Airport. That same night, the US National Security Council—via spokesperson Bernadette Meehan—announced that the United States was providing full logistical support for the war on Yemen. The aggression was a literal implementation of the Obama doctrine: allies shoulder the burden, and we lead from behind. In April 2015, roughly two weeks after the start of the aggression, Antony Blinken—Deputy Secretary of State in the Obama administration and Secretary of State in the Biden administration—visited Riyadh and stated: "We have expedited weapons deliveries, we have increased our intelligence sharing." Washington deployed a team of dozens of officers led by Carl Mundy III; inside a fortified bunker in Riyadh, those advisers were determining what and where the warplanes would bomb. From March 2015 until April 2022, the following took place: More than 60,000 Yemeni citizens were martyred and wounded, mostly women and children, as Yemen was targeted with over a quarter of a million airstrikes. The healthcare sector was entirely destroyed. All of Yemen’s land, sea, and air crossings were shut down, and the siege triggered the world's worst humanitarian tragedy—causing a Yemeni child to die every 10 minutes, according to UN reports. Yemen’s wealth centers were occupied and looted, and Yemeni employees were deprived of their salaries. Airstrikes targeted all production facilities, wiped out the fishing sector, struck water wells, and caused the spread of cholera, diphtheria, and numerous epidemics.Every conceivable tragedy was inflicted upon Yemen as a result of the aggression. In April 2022, a truce with Saudi Arabia or a de-escalation was reached. The foundational terms were resolving humanitarian issues: prisoner exchange, paying employee salaries from Yemen's wealth revenues, and lifting the siege. Yet none of this materialized over the span of 4 years. In 2026, Yemen took a step to break the siege by running a direct flight to return stranded citizens from abroad, but Saudi Arabia countered this flight by bombing Sana'a Airport. Concurrently, Saudi Arabia was tightening the siege on Yemen, holding up goods for months at the Port of Djibouti, and mobilizing takfiri forces and mercenary troops across various parts of Yemen. Facing all of this, Yemen moved to impose deterrent equations based on: Imposing a siege on Saudi Arabia in exchange for the siege on Yemen. Meeting any Saudi escalation and aggression against Yemen with escalation deep inside Saudi territory. Targeting Saudi-affiliated forces being mobilized to invade the liberated territories. Yemen's demands are clear, requiring neither lamentations nor convoluted interpretations: Lifting the siege, halting the aggression, ending the occupation, paying employee salaries from Yemeni wealth revenues, and disbursing compensations resulting from the aggression. If anyone views these demands as exaggerated, the flaw lies in their own thinking. Whoever genuinely cares for Saudi Arabia must push it toward fulfilling these demands, because without them, Yemenis will reject any talk of peace.
