Interesting move. Agent buying does cut the premium and head towards "true" value (access queue). Bring on the agent marketplace and watch the big players build walls and gates.
There’s a game-changing trend in retail right now, and it’s already hitting the bottom lines of the world’s biggest companies. Recently, Google and Amazon both saw search and ad revenues miss market expectations, while Meta is seeing incredible results and millions of downloads for its AI shopping assistant, Muse. This isn't a blip..it's a massive shift in how people shop. For 20 years, we've seen the concept of "brandless quality" and private labels boom. From Zara and Uniqlo in fast fashion to Costco's Kirkland and our own exclusive brands at Kogan, consumers are increasingly shopping based on features, specifications, and value rather than just a logo. Now, AI is supercharging this. AI agents are helping customers become purely rational shoppers. They're helping make purchasing decisions based on hard specs and actual needs, completely stripping away the emotional pull of traditional marketing. If your brand relies solely on positioning, and near identical products can be found elsewhere for a better deal, you are going to get found out in the AI era. True innovators with clear differentiators, like Apple and Dyson, will remain valuable, but the landscape for everyone else is changing fast. Here is where the industry is splitting: platforms like Amazon are closing up, building walls, and trying to ban AI agents from crawling their sites. At Kogan, we are doing the exact opposite. We are opening our site up and making it easier for AI agents to crawl our products, compare our features, and help users make rational decisions. For two decades, we've loved smart, rational customers who do their research, open multiple tabs, and find the best deal. Because the more people do that, the more customers we win. AI bots are essentially spinning up new instances of computers and acting as humans. In the long term, they will be nearly impossible to block. Over the next year, this will be the biggest talking point in retail. How much of your sales are driven by AI agents? And what does it mean for your brand when you have to sell to a hyper-rational computer instead of an emotional human? There is a lot to unpack here, and it is completely transforming the game. Drop a comment below..I'd love to hear your thoughts on where this is heading.

It really is concerning that between "everyone dies" (Yud) and "race to the top" (Ant) there's barely a single soul inclined to discuss what the maturation of the tech actually entails and whether it's even desirable. They all start from the same childish techno-utopian vision.

Rule 1: Don't vote informal. Rule 2: Don't waste your #1 vote on one of the major parties. Use it to send them a message, especially in the Legislative Council (Upper House)! #springst #vicvotes
In elections, an informal vote is a ballot paper that hasn't been completed correctly, which means it can't be counted towards the result. That's why we work hard to make sure every Victorian knows how to correctly complete their ballot paper and have their say this November 28 in the Victorian state election. Find out how to correctly fill out your ballot papers: vec.vic.gov.au/voting/learn-…

The work essay is the more interesting from a UBI and Universal Equity perspective. 80% happy to leave job if they have income equivalent to 100-120% of current.
Two new DeepMind Institute essays: What is Work For? As AI advances how do people value their jobs, for material needs and beyond? The Economics of Intelligence When will AI capabilities impact market structure, wages and jobs? Read the essays here -> bit.ly/dmi_home

I joined @GoogleDeepMind to develop a research program on the economics of AGI. Today, together with Andrew Koh (@andrewjkoh) and Shane Legg (@ShaneLegg), we are incredibly excited to release The Economics of Intelligence, the first in a series of projects from our group on how AGI will change the economy. How do capability improvements transform the economy, and when? In this project, we define thresholds of economic capabilities, e.g., minimal AGI, based on how they transform the economy. We then track how the economy–market structure, employment, and wages–changes during the transition across capability regimes. We have seen exponential increases in what AI agents can do but the broader economy seems almost remarkably unchanged. Part of the reason is that the solo AI agent is the wrong economic object; economic transformation is an equilibrium outcome where organizations compete. Looking at how intelligence functions within organizations, transformation will depend on when two key capability thresholds are crossed: competence (gains on individual skills, e.g., coding, math) and coordination (gains on ability of agents to cooperate and work together). We show that what economic transformation looks like depends on whether AI becomes supercompetent, supercooperative, or both—the regime of artificial superintelligence (ASI). Tracking this transition shows why the real visible transformation may come from improvements in coordination—a capability most benchmarks don’t yet track. Past a certain threshold, AI capabilities can break the Coasian ceiling on firm size and lead to an economy that looks drastically different than the one we see today. Two main takeaways: 1. To understand the path of transformation, we should be tracking agentic coordination more closely. 2. The impact of AI will likely show up in wages before market structure or employment. We are really excited about this paper. Excited to hear people’s thoughts. Link: institute.deepmind.com/essay…

You know, I've been racking my brain trying to remember when else in history a great military power launched a war of aggression against a neighboring country, failed to defeat it on the battlefield for years -- and then the leadership of another great power (which the aggressor had regarded as its archenemy until just yesterday!!) engaged in petty, sordid collusion with the aggressor, made a complete 180-degree turn, and began actively working to force its undefeated victim into capitulation and extinction as a nation. I'm honestly trying to think of historical precedents -- but it seems that never before in the history of this world under the heavens has there been such a spectacular display of deranged idiocy.

This could be big. Because it's small.
1/4 Meet Qwenputer: Qwen3.5-4B with a full RISC-V CPU inside its weights, using the model's own Gated DeltaNet layers as RAM. It runs C and MicroPython in its forward passes, no external runtime. On DeepMind math: base 55–90%, base + Python tool 95–100%, Qwenputer 97.5–100%.

JRF is right. Emergency relief buys time; structural reform builds security. First, restore housing support and protect essential incomes. Then UBI for an income floor, UBS to cut living costs and a Green New Deal for decent jobs. Relief isn't reform.
💼 'Breathing space' for today not enough Our response to today's Budget 👇 Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP has announced measures that will help struggling families this winter - but we'll be right back here again next year without more fundamental reforms.

The Greens are today announcing our plan to cut tax on work and put more money in people's pockets. Every Australian will have an extra $1000, paid for by the 1%. The cost-of-living crisis isn’t inevitable. We can change who pays tax and who gets relief.

The most significant line for me is "direct distributions to specific populations." It sounds to me like they are planning their own form of self-directed global UBI. About half of Anth employees are also donating shares into this fund. They foresee a transformative future.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion. In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding. In the post below, we share more details about our new fund. anthropic.com/news/public-be…

Still insane to me that all of these positions require PHDs and all of these fancy declarations instead of die hard AI enthusiasts who are literally knee deep in the trenches and helping to shape the conversation about what AI actually is. Some of the most influential and best minds are in my circle and overlooked due to lack of outdated credentials imo.
Applications are now open for two new Anthropic Fellowships. STEM Fellows (science and engineering) and Conceptual Reasoning Fellows (philosophy, cognitive science, economics, policy, and law) will spend four months at Anthropic from January 2027, working to help Claude reason well about some of the hardest problems in those fields. For more information, see the descriptions below. The application deadline is October 28. Conceptual Reasoning Fellows: job-boards.greenhouse.io/ant… STEM Fellows: job-boards.greenhouse.io/ant…

when nick told me that he had some interp breakthroughs, he was uh, underselling it. i think this may be remembered as a major moment in scientific history. news so good even eliezer will have to lower his pdoom. we can start making alignment into a 'normal science'
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/
