Today is International Day for the Universal Access to Information. Access to information is a universal right - and the EU helps make this right a reality. #Media4Democracy #EU4HumanRights #RightToKnow #AccessToInfo @misazimbabwe
We're excited to be part of #LCOYUg2026, joining young leaders, innovators, policymakers, and climate champions committed to shaping a more resilient and sustainable future. At AFIC, we believe that meaningful climate action begins with empowering young people with information to lead, innovate, and influence solutions that strengthen communities. As we participate in this year's conference, we look forward to engaging in conversations, sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and supporting youth-led climate action that drives lasting impact. Together, let's champion climate resilience, innovation, and inclusive development for Uganda and beyond. #LCOYUg2026 #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership #ClimateInnovation #AFIC #Sustainability #Resilience

During the #SONA26 President Museveni stated that he does not want ministers who go MIA on their work. Everyone must be in the field. Hon Balaam, Baryomunsi and others hit the ground running. Where are the fire brand ministers like Prof Kamuntu, Mao and others in this? In which field can they be found? Chairman Mao presides over matters related to Justice in Uganda and Prof Kamuntu presides over the regulation of NGOs in Uganda. Since the rationalization of the NGO Bureau in April 2024, there is no NGO Board in Uganda. The Bureau has never been constituted for almost 2 years now. All decisions purported to be taken including the suspension of NGOs are illegal. Prof Kamuntu was known as ambassador exponentially in UPC 2 days because of his brilliance and swiftness. Can he come out and account for the events happening under his docket regarding NGOs? Why were the NGOs suspended? Who suspended them? Under what mandate? Have they been accorded a right to be heard? Does the NGO Act provide of indefinite suspensions? Why ‘regulate’ NGOs outside the constitutional framework? @KamuntuProf @norbertmao @ObothOboth @Thomas_Tayebwa @JaneRuth_Aceng @R_Nabbanja @JoelSsenyonyi @Hon_MwiruPaul @SheilahAmaniyo @NBakireke @SKisoboka #CivicSpaceUG

Prof @KamuntuProf and the @NGObureau should brief @R_Nabbanja about the 6 months arbitrary suspension of NGOs, from 9th January 2026, outside the provisions of the Constitution and the NGO Act; with no NGO Board. Thank you Hon @akellol02 for raising this issue of gross abuse of power at @mia_uga @ObothOboth @Parliament_Ug

Mr. Gilbert Sendugwa Executive Director @africafoicentre during his presentation on Utility of ATI Laws: Lessons, Good Practices and Opportunities for Cross-border Collaboration in Combating Collaboration through ATI, emphasized Access to Information being a powerful anti-corruption tool that drives accountability, triggers action and empowers citizens to monitor service delivery. But laws alone aren’t enough, implementation, enforcement and public demand are key. #ATI #Transparency #Accountability @GilbertSendugwa @TIKenya @TI_Rwanda @petwander @anticorruption @Accu_Ug @PPDAUganda @talktosema @UHRC_UGANDA @meaca_ug @mopsuganda @cipesaug @Siafasaahkamara @PaulBanoba @nsconco @ance_togo @ksika91 @ChristianNoudem #RightToInformation #Transparency #DigitalRights

Mr. Gilbert Sendugwa ED, @africafoicentre while at the panel discussion congratulated TI-Uganda on the report, describing it as a vital instrument for addressing corruption. Key points of his discussion were: * The Implementation Gap: While most African countries have legal frameworks for Access to Information (ATI), corruption remains high because implementation is weak. * Institutional Responsibility: Public institutions are mandated to implement ATI laws. This includes establishing reporting systems, ensuring data disclosure and building internal capacity. The report, however, highlights significant failures in these areas. * The Demand Side: There is a limited "demand" for information. Citizens are not frequently making formal requests as the law allows. He emphasized that making information requests is a primary tool for fighting corruption and urged the public to use it. * Responsiveness Issues: Statistics show that approximately 75% of information requests do not result in access being granted. This lack of responsiveness is a direct violation of the law. * Proactive Disclosure: Public bodies must focus on proactive disclosure. However, Mr. Sendugwa cautioned that we must also verify the accuracy of the data being disclosed. * Call to Action: Information requests trigger institutional action and implementation; therefore, stakeholders should persist in making these requests. @TI_Rwanda @TIKenya @transparencyUSA @Accu_Ug @PPDAUganda @CSBAGUGANDA @talktosema @petwander @meaca_ug @mopsuganda @cipesaug @GilbertSendugwa #RightToInformation #Transparency #DigitalRights

🔗f.mtr.cool/zfhzsswtah

To those who take Iran lightly, take note of this essential information. Whenever news breaks that Iran has hacked a high-tech American company or made their most advanced surveillance drone, the Triton, vanish... your first reaction is usually: "China must be supporting them" or "Russia must be helping"... right? Well, listen up. Iran ranks 4th in the world with an average IQ score of 104.80, while the United States ranks 18th with a score of 101.04. Iran has been a nation of intellectuals since the beginning, and it remains so today. Iran holds the 2nd rank globally in STEM graduate density—far ahead of the US, China, Germany, and India. STEM stands for Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics. This means that for every 100,000 people, Iran produces the second-highest number of specialists in the world in these fields. Furthermore, a significant number of students from Iran pursue advanced higher education. Iran possesses some of the world's best engineers and has the oil wealth to back them. With this, they have built a formidable defense infrastructure. This is why they possess highly advanced missiles and the skilled personnel to operate them. Now, consider the news that China is about to deliver its newest, most advanced defense system to Iran. So, for those who think Iran is intimidated by America, please read the facts instead of falling for media chatter. #Kaalchakra I hold a Master's degree in International Trade, and international projects are my business. I study all of this for my profession. I felt that the general public should be informed, so I am writing this post. If you don't like my post, please Google it and prove me wrong. Don't just talk nonsense based on emotions, or I will respond in kind.

Mr. Gilbert Sendudwa Executive Director @africafoicentre in his submission emphaises the importance of access to information. There's a strong link between corruption and secrecy. Public offices should obey the law and give information when citizens ask for it. #CPI2025

On Wednesday this week, we hosted a stakeholder engagement on emergency procurement in Uganda. The focus: analysing policy frameworks for emergencies like #COVID19, climate crises, and corruption risks in such incidents. We also discussed creating early warning systems to enable quick, efficient government service delivery-triggering timely, transparent procurement ahead of crises.

At #DigitalPlatformGovernance 2026, we are asking a critical question: How do we advance access to data in ways that strengthen human rights and public trust? Private platforms hold granular, real-time data. National statistical agencies hold representative, comparable data. Governance must protect both. Looking forward to discussing how access to data can reinforce transparency, accountability, and robust public statistical infrastructure across Africa. Today @ @UPTuks; Future Africa Campus, 10:00 to 11:30 Conference Room 2.
