Kenyans today were called to attention for an important presidential announcement. This was to be expected, because there is a critical national matter pending... The announcement was about a football match next year. (No, seriously.) Meanwhile... nitter.cf/joshuamalidzo/status/2…
Today is the deadline for the President to reconstitute the Cabinet to meet the two-thirds gender principle. The High Court gave him 120 days At midnight, the constitutionality of the Cabinet and its decisions will be in question. May the Constitutional bells ring!

Such an honour to be a part of a three-day international memorial conference revering the late Prof. Bethwell Allan Ogot (1929–2025), at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu. Jointly organised by the Department of History, Archaeology and Political Studies of Kenyatta University and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), the conference, themed "The Sands of Time: History, Method and Knowledge Production in Africa — The Indelible Footprints of Prof. Bethwell Allan Ogot" has drawn academics, historians and intellectuals from across Africa and the wider world. That such a constellation of minds has chosen to converge in Kisumu speaks volumes about the stature of the man we gather to honour. Prof. Ogot was a towering son of this nation and of our continent. Through works such as History of the Southern Luo, and through his stewardship of the UNESCO General History of Africa, Ogot rescued African history and restored it to its rightful owners. His footprints are indeed indelible on the sands of time. It falls upon us, the present and future generations, to walk in them, to keep asking the difficult questions and producing knowledge by Africans, for Africa, about Africa.

The Open Society Foundations are concerned that the Kenyan government’s commitment to the rule of law is under question after it disregarded a court order and denied entry this week to Brian Kagoro, Open Society’s managing director for Africa. Kenya’s High Court issued an order in June that directed the authorities to permit Kagoro to travel to the country. Kagoro was set to attend proceedings in a case regarding his deportation from Kenya in February. The court’s order made clear that he was to be allowed entry pending the outcome of the case. The decision to bar Kagoro from entering Kenya prevents him from being able to exercise his legal rights to meet his lawyers and attend any proceedings related to his case. The High Court has directed the Attorney General to explain why Kagoro was denied entry.

I am stuck hapo kwa angered; was Ruto angered by Sifuna’s criticism or is SHA really anchored in law. Ni hayo tu.
Replying to @NelsonHavi
Be a good listener. Ruto said that SHA is angered on a law. To scrap it you need a legislation not Kalonzo's take that he will scrap it in his first day in the office.

This is a long article. But it deserves to be read from the beginning to the very end. It is a global health story; a global health (research) story. It deserves to be taught in global health classrooms. It deserves to be taught in the context of responsibility and reparation.
“I carried my lifelong pederasty into my medical career and succeeded in both with very few failures,” the Nobel Prize-winning scientist D. Carleton Gajdusek wrote, two months before he died. “Without protectors I would never have succeeded.” newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

Not really bro; they are canvassing their personal (failed) political wishes and itineraries through commentaries offered on platforms where their interlocutors can’t offer effective pushback.
I think, folks are overindexing the Matiba 1992 moment: there's no chance Ndindi is Matiba! Just because both are from Murunga doesn't mean one is the other. Search for shots of Matiba’s arrival from London!

President Macron has made announcements of the same kind before- like special post-pandemic allocation, extra SDR diversion to Africa, promises of the Paris Summit on new financing. The tangible outcomes so far: "to be seen", not yet there. ODA slashed, FDI declining, reprioratisation of EU towards Ukraine. With a current FDI stock of $60 billion it is hard to believe on a $27 billion additional investment in the continent. Looks pretty though... at yet another Summit.

Pan-Africanism is an ideology that represents Africa's desire for common agency. It cannot be appropriated by external actors even if they want to express sympathy and recognise where the future lies.
French President Emmanuel Macron declares “we are the true pan-Africanists” at a summit with more than 30 African leaders in Kenya, hailing Africa as the world’s youngest continent with an economic growth set to outpace Southeast Asia. 🔴 More on aljazeera.com

What the UNECA did, under the leadership of the late Adedeji Adebayo, was to conduct a series of African reflections that culminated in the Lagos Plan of Action. I can’t imagine anyone characterising the LPA a single African pathway. It was African, but not single.
