Ah what the heck, lets announce it early...our first guest will be longtime guest @ShutdownLine! We're going to go over the Caps hot start in depth...plus Corey is going to be catching me up on the NHL over the last two years.
Happy to announce an early Christmas present for Caps fans...I'm going to be relaunching @JapersRinkRadio! I'm still working on the full slate of guests, but the hope is to go bi-weekly. I'll be announcing our first guest early next week, so stay tuned 🙂

Definitely better food
I will say, I love that the RGV is the new site of Trump voter safaris, after 8 years of going to diners in Ohio.

For reference: right now on @umichvoter’s site, we’re at around 930K votes and a margin of R+25
The turnout number to see is R+9. Anything under that, Jolly brings it up to a tossup, and above that, Donalds should take it. Total Turnout/Persuasion Needed on ED for R+9: 2.0M voters: R+27.1 2.5M voters: R+23.5 3.0M voters: R+21.1 3.5M voters: R+19.4

You’d expect a decline of maybe 5-10 points from this peak, maybe? Not as sure on the total vote number, but we’re at around 1/3rd through the day (though though total turnout will spike from 5-7 PM)

This is actually something we eat regularly in Denmark! It’s called a pølsehorn here

Guys, there’s no chance Detroit would take this deal.
Washington Capitals Mock Trade for Dylan Larkin DET - Dylan Strome - Ivan Miroshnichenko - Anthony Beauvillier - 2028 2nd Round Pick WSH - Dylan Larkin WHO SAYS NO? #NHL #LGRW #ALLCAPS

There’s a lot of evidence of strong black turnout right now (also see the LA early voting data), and I haven’t really read a lot of convincing explanations why
SC modeled party is at R+1.9 but that is significantly worse than 2024 at this period of EV where it was R+28.8. Modeled Dem turnout is +7% vs 24 and modeled GOP is -45% vs 2024 147K Black turnout is near even vs 24. Share is 29.5% of ballots cast vs 21.3% in 2024 #scpol

To me, this kinda feels like CBS had a big GOP non-response issue here (like we’ve seen in a lot of these Iowa polls), then had to crudely use 2024 recall to make the top-line make sense.
Replying to @kkondik
It has an R+12 weighted sample for the electorate: 41R 30I 29D That's the exact same R-D partisan turnout margin as 2024. Seems unlikely that the partisan electorate will look the same as 2024...

This is Ilya Protas’s best game as a Capital.

Guys it’s been 6 games.
Will always love Kyrou, but the early returns on this one have been GREAT for the #STLBlues. Armstrong masterclass Obviously still EARLY… BUT… McMicheal is 2/4/6 in 6 games.. playing 2nd line and 16 mpg Kyrou is 1/1/2 in 6 games.. playing 3rd line and 10 mpg AND the blues got an additional 2026 1st that they used on Dagenais, and helped them feel comfortable using additional capital to go get McTavish.. McMicheal and McTavish have been unbelievable for the #Blues… and neither are here without the Kyrou trade. Army masterclass early on. #LGB #FrozenFrenzy

PLD has operated as a good "fixer" of lines before...I wonder if he'd be a good fit w/ Kyrou & Big Pro
Spencer Carbery, btw, found a good substitute for Pierre-Luc Dubois on the powerhouse line with Alex Tuch and Tom Wilson: Dylan Strome. That combo had an expected goals-for % of 94.13, a Corsi-for % of 83.33 and scoring chances-for % of 87.50 at 5-on-5.

So this involved failed 2010 GOP senate candidate Sue Lowden (she lost in the GOP primary to the even crazier Sharron Angle.) Still, it led to my favorite headline ever.
I guess I would say that at the time, at least in my recollection, it was our impression that 2012 turned out quite well for Ds, largely because the GOP gifted as many as 3 or 4 senates seats to the Ds by nominating complete whackos. Look up bartering chickens for healthcare.

This fits w/ what I've seen from the first 3 games. Obviously a rough game for that line, but I quite like the complementary skill sets of Ilya & Kyrou. That said, I wonder if Big Pro is as good a fit with them or if he'd be better off elsewhere.
Kyrou hasn't struck yet for the Capitals, but it's a matter of time until his dynamic rushing ability and skill with the puck breaks through. That should be a huge acquisition for them.

Ilya Protas at 5v5 for the Caps last night (Score & Venue adjusted): 10:52 Ice Time 76.08 Shot Attempt % 90.28 Shots on Goal % 90.42 (!!) Expected Goals % 1-0 in actual goals That's one hell of a start.

The word that comes to mind regarding this Caps team: relentless. I'm just not sure how you're supposed to matchup against them.
