I don’t believe anyone can defend this bill in good faith. It is catastrophically dangerous. But the nature of our parliamentary system is that the vast majority of MPs will plod through the lobby and vote simply on the basis of whatever their Whips have told them to do, without any thought whatsoever. Individual MPs MUST be held to account for their actions in relation to this bill. It WILL go wrong. It WILL cause terrible injustices. It WILL cause irreparable damage to children. It WILL tear families apart. There is no doubt about that. And each and every terrible example must be placed directly on the shoulders of each individual MP who backs it.
“We could amend this Bill here, there and everywhere, carve out this, tweak that, but at the end of the day the government would still be passing a Bill that says there’s one area, and one area only, of medical practice where you could get prosecuted if you put a foot wrong. That won’t be a chilling effect, that’ll be a deep freeze” Magnificent from @Jebadoo2 #BinTheBill

Been quite the day. Grateful to Parliament for letting us speak and to Helen and Dermot for being such effective advocates. This bill is dangerous and it will criminalise innocent parents. It cannot be amended into civility. It must be defeated.

This is badly thought out bill.

I’ve held my tongue for long enough, but watching these oddball, military-cosplaying populists drag my old gang’s name through the mud is utterly disgraceful. The Royal Marines have served our nation with courage, honour and distinction for over 361 years. Their reputation was earned through generations of sacrifice, not political grandstanding. We all know what Yusuf and Jenrick have been saying. So if Farage genuinely disagrees with them, why does he keep defending them?
“Force will be met with force.” @NickFerrariLBC challenges Nigel Farage over Robert Jenrick's suggestion that Reform would deploy Royal Marines to use 'lethal force' against illegal migrants.

Other countries might be defined by blood, territory or language. America has always been creedal, an ideal of liberty turned into a state. Its critics back-handedly recognise as much. The reason that anti-Americanism is a force in world affairs (unlike anti-Algerianism or anti-Armenianism or anti-Albanianism) is that America’s enemies acknowledge that it stands for something. That something is the package represented by personal autonomy, limited government, constitutional rule, regular elections and private enterprise – in a word, freedom. A bias towards freedom has, until now, characterised US foreign policy. A people habituated to liberty immediately saw what was wrong with Nazism and Communism. Which is why current US foreign policy is so shocking to pro-Americans. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is one of those rare occasions when we can clearly identify the aggressor. Vladimir Putin sought to annex a neighbour that offered him no threat – a neighbour that had given up its nuclear weapons in return for a promise that its sovereignty would be respected within its existing borders. Who guaranteed that promise? Britain, the United States and (never forget) Russia. Donald Trump is backing a belligerent dictatorship against a beleaguered democracy. Putin is the one leader he never disparages. He threatens annexation against Denmark, muses about handing away British territory, wages economic war on Canada. But not Russia. Never Russia. Now Trump is buying diesel from Russia, potash from Belarus, minerals from China – all because he doesn’t want to buy them from Canada, which has stood at America’s side in war after war. American friends, can you not see what this is doing, not just to America’s standing, but to the free world which your fathers have built since 1941? Trump is bringing down the international system from which the US has been the chief beneficiary. And for what? To drink liberal tears? God help us.

A reasonable response to the extremism of the Green Party.
After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them. I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

Reform are now actively advocating our military committing war crimes. Shades of 1930s Germany. Or any other totalitarian regime.
Many former and serving Royal Marines have told me how devastated they are to be forced to watch as invaders land by their home of Portsmouth. I make them this promise: A Reform government will immediately deploy His Majesty’s Royal Marines with the following orders: DO NOT LET A SINGLE INVADER REACH OUR SHORES. If people smugglers resist, our boys will be authorised to use lethal force. We will take our country back. 🇬🇧

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 10 hours, to address various points which I think people in general should know. A 🧵

This is a sitting MP spewing overt (and palpably stupid) conspiracy theories that he knows will be lapped up by his followers. The degradation of parliament and the public sphere by this sort of rhetoric is a serious threat to British democracy

Andrew Neil takes apart the case for Britain rejoining the EU, arguing the Europe of 2026 bears no resemblance to the EU of 2016. From the rise of the AFD in Germany to Le Pen's dominance in France, Neil breaks down why the political and economic landscape in Europe has shifted dramatically since Brexit. A sharp, no-nonsense take on Brexit, the EU single market debate, and UK growth versus the EZ3 economies.

Zoe Hollowood is incredibly brave to challenge her party in this way. I know what it’s like to state biological sex is real and be attacked for speaking common sense and telling the truth. She is not on my side of the political spectrum, but courage calls to courage everywhere. Zoe should be supported in trying to get the Lib Dems to stop being silly, follow the law and respect the supreme court judgement.
Yesterday our chair @hollowood_zoe asked @LibDems conference in a trans debate: "In 2026, are women allowed rights? Rights to dignity. Rights to safety. Rights to say no." Conference resoundingly voted 'no' thus deciding that women were second class citizens. 🧵

🚨The Trades Union Congress just shockingly adopted full BDS of Israel. Here’s BDS leader Omar Barghouti thanking them on behalf of the Palestinian National Committee. Guess who else is a member? Hamas. Our trade unions are in a campaign with terrorists. Terrifying. @The_TUC

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Dr @ZubirAhmed, NHS transplant surgeon, makes it clear that when he has to give a terminal prognosis, he is as often wrong as he is right. We should not allow people to end their lives based on the toss of a coin.

The ‘woke’ era was a disaster — and even the Left is beginning to recognise it. Yet as progressives such as New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) begin to distance themselves from the movement, we must not forget the chilling effect its punitive orthodoxies had on free speech. They encouraged medieval-style public shamings and cancellations and robbed people of their livelihoods, writes Celia Walden. In recent years, we have witnessed an alarming rise in cancel culture and performative virtue-signalling. Those who refused to subscribe to various progressive orthodoxies, or who sought to challenge the status quo, faced vexatious complaints. Many were ‘cancelled’, ostracised by their peers or hounded out of their jobs and social circles. Celia writes: “Strikingly, there was no room for forgiveness within this lofty moral framework. Every ‘cancelled’ figure I’ve interviewed over the years has zeroed in on that.” Just last month, the founder of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, described his astonishment at this aspect of the movement: “It doesn’t distinguish between the sin and the sinner.” Stonewall co-founder Simon Fanshawe has also been damning of the ‘woke’ movement. As Celia points out, he has conceded that DEI had “taken on a life of its own and became a monster”, that it had “divided, not included” and had changed “practically nothing meaningful”. He now argues that a “reset” is needed. Celia says this must mean a break from “the policing of language and the demands of activists, among other things”. How sad that a movement founded on principles to which everyone should have been able to subscribe — opposing racial prejudice, discrimination and systemic injustice — was hijacked and bastardised to such an extent.
