❤️60 PumpPals delivered to Rotunda Hospital yesterday in memory of my mum who was a strong breastfeeding advocate in her day❤️
She had her 7 children @RotundaHospital + her 19 grandchildren all born there too.
We hope these 60 PumpPals help mums of sick & premature babies❤️
“While doctors are knowledgeable about disease, they do not adequately appreciate that illness changes everything for the patient.”
"Doctors often view illness as a biological phenomenon that needs medical intervention, while patients tend to view illness within the framework of their entire lives." @RitaCharon
Doctors, patients & caregivers see diagnoses differently.

Absolutely shocking and disturbing.
This family have been through enough, they’ve still along way to go to get their child healthy and well.
Instead of @CHI_Ireland assisting the family in every way imaginable, they are having to go to the high court to access his medical records.
As a mum whose son had heart surgery in CHI, the *disregard* shown for this child’s needs is sickening.
“The judge was asked to grant an injunction to the family compelling the hospital to release the records so the family could seek a 2nd opinion.” rte.ie/news/2023/1009/140985…
“What you were presiding over was a recurring, foreseeable, predictable pattern of suboptimal outcomes, leaving children on waiting lists for so long… What did you do about it?”
@TomClonan bravely getting to the heart of the matter today.
Incredibly powerful contribution by @TomClonan at the Oireachtas Committee this afternoon. Worth watching the full thing. We really should be ashamed of the way children are treated in this country. Especially those who are going through so much already.

WHERE is the voice of the patient or family at the Oireachtas hearing today?
You would think listening to it that a hospital has suffered, not children and their families.
#healthcommittee when asked about about Register they said there is a hips/knees one but not spine … see below.

Excellent much-needed research capturing parents’ exp of childhood cancer in Ireland.
“people say oh isn’t it lucky that he’s still here…I can’t believe what you went through, as if it’s a past tense thing, but it’s not, it’s constantly going to be in your present.”
Congratulations to the very soon-to-be Dr @EmmaDelemere on her latest publication which explores the needs and challenges of families impacted by paediatric cancer.
Thanks also to @IsaiahGitonga @AdvanceCrt @MUpsychdept

I wonder how many of my colleagues and collaborators in nutrition and equity had the same reaction I did to the story about breastfeeding and GCSE results? Which was ‘gaaaah. Argh.’ A THREAD.

Great day speaking at Association of European Paediatric Cardiology annual meeting Representing parents of children with CHD in Ireland.
Next step: work our way onto main stage so all clinicians can hear from parents and families.

Surely time for @CHI_Ireland to remove ban on siblings visiting sick brother/sister and caregiving parent so?

Face masks are no longer mandatory in all settings in healthcare facilities and hospitals from today. However, in some scenarios or settings, they will still be clinically appropriate. Healthcare staff can read guidance on our website healthservice.hse.ie/staff/c…

Three years later, it is time to re-establish the principles of family-centred care in PICUs by including ALL members of the family!

My husband’s doctors excelled at caring for him medically, but Roger understood how this event impacted our lives’
Oh Roger ❤️
In my 10+ years of co-survivorship, doing life with @DGlaucomflecken through 2 separate cancers, 1 SCA and fighting off his death with 10 mins of #CPR, only ONE (1) of the medical professionals we interacted with has ever asked how I was doing. Meet Roger. authors.elsevier.com/a/1giY0…
A huge PumpPal delivery went to the Children’s Heart Centre in CHI @ Crumlin today thanks to Malahide Sylvester’s Cycling Club.
Leo Ryan + Philip Cleere cycled 500kms in August.
We are so grateful to them for fundraising for mums + babies in need of PumpPals on the way ❤️
