I Am From Zimbabwe. And Rwanda Makes Me Question Everything. Let me say that again, with all the weight it carries. I am from Zimbabwe , a land blessed beyond imagination. Gold beneath our feet, platinum in our hills, diamonds in our rivers, the richest soil, the most educated people. God gave us everything. And yet, when I look at Rwanda, I feel ashamed. Not because Rwanda has more. Rwanda has far less. I feel ashamed because Rwanda has done more with nothing, than we have done with everything. In my country, Zimbabwe, looting has become a trophy. We no longer hide theft. We celebrate it. Corruption is not whispered in dark corridors — it is displayed on Instagram, driven on our roads in convoys of luxury cars, built into mansions on stolen land. The looter is now the hero. The thief is now the role model. In my country, political proximity to power has become a licence to amass wealth. You do not need to innovate. You do not need to work. You do not need to build. You only need to be close. Close to power, close to the party, close to the right family. If you are close, the tenders are yours. The mines are yours. The land is yours. The US dollars are yours. And if you are not close, you can watch your country crumble while you queue for everything — for fuel, for cash, for hope. That is the painful truth of my beloved Zimbabwe. Then I look across the continent, to Rwanda. A small country. Landlocked. No vast mineral wealth. A country that in 1994, during the Genocide against the Tutsi, lost everything. The world remained silent. The world left you to die. You had every excuse to fail. Every excuse to loot. Every excuse to say, "We are traumatized, we cannot build." But you did the opposite. You stopped the Genocide. You chose unity over revenge. You made Kigali safe, clean, and beautiful — not because you are rich, but because you are disciplined. You built the Kigali Convention Centre. They said that was your limit. You built Kigali Arena. They said that was as far as you could go. You transformed Amahoro Stadium. They said other countries have bigger stadiums. You brought the UCI Cycling World Championships to Africa — the first time in history. They said, "It’s just cycling." Now you have brought Formula One to Rwanda. And suddenly, the whole world that once ignored you is now paying attention. The whole world wants to come to Kigali. Do you see the pattern, my fellow Zimbabweans? Rwanda kept rising while the world kept doubting. We keep sinking while the world keeps pitying us. Rwanda teaches me this profound lesson: A nation is not built by what is UNDER the ground. A nation is built by what is INSIDE the hearts of its people and its leaders. Rwanda has no diamonds to loot, so they learned to build. We have diamonds to loot, so we never learned to build. Rwanda has leaders who see power as a burden to carry the nation. We have people in power who see power as a licence to carry away the nation. Thank you, President Paul Kagame, for reminding Africa that it is possible. Thank you, people of Rwanda, for your discipline, your cleanliness, your vision. You have turned a genocide into greatness. I write this as a proud Zimbabwean who loves his country deeply , and that is why it hurts so much. I wish, with all my heart, that my country Zimbabwe, with all its wealth, could borrow just one leaf from Rwanda: That leadership is not about how much you can amass for yourself, but how much you can build for others. Until that day comes, I will keep looking at Rwanda — not with jealousy, but with longing. Longing for what Harare could be, if only we chose to be like Kigali. Much respect from Zimbabwe. 🇿🇼🇷🇼

"Whatever you do, wherever you are, don't waste time. Learn, work, and make the effort to understand what is right and what is wrong. Do what is right, and avoid what is wrong. Keep building yourself as time goes on. This requires discipline, self-control, and a clear understanding of what you are doing. And it has to be consistent. You cannot be disciplined at night and then lose that discipline during the day. You have to keep at it. At your age, this is when your life can take one direction or another. You can come out of these years having built yourself into a better person, or the opposite. Things move very fast at this stage of life. You can either build yourself or destroy yourself. It's never too late. Even when you realise that you have lost something along the way, perhaps because you were carried away by emotions or the easy things in life, and you lost your way, whenever you come to your senses, remember that there is still time to turn things around and build a better life. Don't give up and say it is too late, that the damage has already been done. Even when things have gone too far, they can still be put right. Never give up." HEALTH IN FOCUS 🇷🇼 | Ten Years of Zipline in Rwanda What if life-saving blood could reach a hospital in minutes instead of hours? Ten years ago, Rwanda became the first country where Zipline launched its life-saving drone delivery service, marking a major milestone in the use of technology to address healthcare delivery challenges. Today, after millions of deliveries, the story is about more than drones. It is about mothers whose lives depend on timely access to blood during childbirth, children receiving vaccines, and health facilities gaining faster access to essential medicines and medical supplies. Key impacts from Zipline’s decade in Rwanda: 1️⃣Faster blood delivery: Dr. Samuel Niyitegeka, Director of Nursing at Nemba Hospital, explains that the time needed to receive blood has decreased from more than two hours to approximately 40 minutes. 2️⃣ Expanded access to medical supplies: Zipline delivers vaccines, medicines and other essential medical products to health facilities. 3️⃣ Childhood vaccination: Rwanda has recorded 94% childhood vaccination coverage, highlighting progress in protecting children against vaccine-preventable diseases. 4️⃣Improved maternal health outcomes: Research reports a 51% reduction in maternal mortality associated with Zipline’s service, highlighting the potential impact of timely access to life-saving medical supplies. Rwanda’s experience demonstrates how technology can address real healthcare challenges and bring essential medical supplies closer to the people who need them. The lesson is clear: technology matters most when it reaches the people who need it, when they need it most. @ZiplineRwanda @zipline @MrKayitana @Keller @MeetTheCaitlin @mnls_nke @WHORwanda @Rwanda_Edu @RwandaInfra @Imbuto @RwandaSouth @CityofKigali @unicefrw @Rwanda_Child @HDIRwanda @Sfrwanda1 @cooperation_lu @UNDP_Rwanda @ughe_org @GermanyinRwanda #HealthInFocus #Rwanda #Zipline #DigitalHealth #HealthInnovation
HEALTH IN FOCUS 🇷🇼 | How drones are transforming healthcare in Rwanda “Technology becomes relevant and meaningful when it works for people and addresses challenges they face daily.” — President Paul Kagame. Rwanda is demonstrating how innovation can save lives by using drone technology to deliver essential medical supplies where and when they are needed. Since launching its national medical drone delivery service in 2016, Rwanda has transformed the transportation of blood to hospitals, helping healthcare workers respond faster to emergencies, including severe bleeding during childbirth. In 2023, 28,754 units of blood were delivered by drone across Rwanda, with an average delivery time of just 25 minutes. Research has also linked drone deliveries to a 51% reduction in in-hospital mortality from postpartum haemorrhage and a 67% reduction in blood wastage. Beyond blood, drone deliveries now support access to essential medicines and vaccines, helping address geographical barriers that can delay healthcare. Rwanda’s experience shows that digital innovation is not just about advanced technology. It is about bringing essential services closer to people, supporting healthcare professionals and improving patient outcomes. When technology serves people, innovation becomes a lifeline. 🇷🇼 @zipline @RwandaHealth @RBCRwanda @ZiplineRwanda @MrKayitana @Keller #HealthInFocus #Rwanda #DigitalHealth #HealthInnovation

More than 19,000 learners across #Rwanda had not returned to school nearly a month after the 2026/27 academic year began on September 7. • Financial difficulties, lack of school materials, family challenges, and some learners dropping out to seek work are among the reasons for the delay. • The Western Province recorded 15,993 learners who had not returned out of 1,041,859 expected to report for the new academic year. • In the Northern Province, 3,793 learners had not returned, including 1,202 in Musanze, 1,050 in Rulindo, 798 in Burera, 523 in Gakenke, and 220 in Gicumbi. • Northern Province Governor Maurice Mugabowagahunde said delayed return was linked to factors including inadequate parental follow-up, weak cooperation between parents, teachers, and schools, and limited appreciation of the importance of education in some families. • In the Western Province, authorities said some parents were unable to provide all required school materials immediately and encouraged families to communicate with schools so children can continue attending lessons as they seek the missing materials. • In the Southern Province, 98.8% of learners expected to attend school from nursery to Senior Six had reported, but authorities said some older or late-starting learners had dropped out to seek income or engage in work. Grateful to be part of an important conversation at #AHTS2026 on why Africa’s intelligent health systems must also prioritise the health and wellbeing of adolescents. The recognition of adolescent and school health within the Summit’s discussions, and the emphasis on young people being part of the conversation, was particularly meaningful. As @medsar_rwanda , we remain committed to empowering adolescents with SRHR knowledge, strengthening health education, and creating safe spaces where young people can access information, support and services. Thank you @umubyeyi_rw, @AfricaHTSummit, @VillageReach, @Rwanda_Edu and @UNFPARwanda for creating space for these important conversations and partnerships. #AHTS2026 #AdolescentHealth #SRHR
