THREE DAYS IN SKID ROW β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” β€œI watched a homeless man stick a needle into an open wound on his leg. He did so casually, almost absentmindedly, while the city carried on around him.” BY: @JoeGarzaCreates

This woman is completely unqualified for any elected office. To describe lawful arrests as β€œkidnapping” is offensive, sure, but it also shows that Nithya is a child who has zero curiosity about how anything actually works. She is a Tik Tok candidate. Non-citizens charged with removability appear before an Immigration Judge. That judge determines whether the non-citizen is removable from the U.S. If the judge makes this finding, the non-citizen has the opportunity to apply for relief from removal. There are several forms of this, including but not limited to asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the regulations implementing the Convention Against Torture, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal, among other forms of relief. Lawful permanent residents who are charged with removability based on criminal conduct can apply for certain waivers. If the immigration judge has found the non-citizen to be removable, then he or she hears these these above-mentioned applications for relief. The non-citizen is entitled to counsel during these hearings. If the immigration judge decides to grant the non-citizen’s application for relief from removal, the non-citizen is not removed from the U.S., unless the government appeals and wins. If the judge doesn’t find the non-citizen removable in the first place, they are not removed, unless the government appeals and wins. If the immigration judge finds the non-citizen removable, and doesn’t grant any form of relief from removal, the non-citizen can appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals. If the Board rules in the non-citizen’s favor, he or she cannot be removed - because a removal order is required to remove people from the U.S. (There are exceptions in which the removal order does not come from the judge, but they are limited). If the Board doesn’t rule in the non-citizen’s favor, the non-citizen can appeal to federal court, unless it has been stripped of jurisdiction over certain issue by the statute. But even then, the courthouse door is open; as the Ninth Circuit said, β€œwe have jurisdiction to determine jurisdiction.” (Not verbatim, don’t @ me). Obviously, actual kidnapping victims don’t have three layers of due process - the analogy is just so stupid I can’t believe I have to write something that stupid. But what’s even more stupid is that all of the above is laid out plainly in the Immigration and Nationality Act, which for better or worse, Congress hasn’t meaningfully amended since 1996. Nothing is stopping Nithya or her advisors from cracking open that statute and learning something, other than her childish belief that if she just does what the cool kids are doing (hating on ICE) that’s somehow qualifies her to be mayor. It qualifies her to be an Instagram influencer but not a mayor. I personally like my mayors to have a grip on how federal law actually works. Either Nithya doesn’t actually know how it works or she does and she’s pretending not to. Both are disqualifying. To be clear, criticism of immigration policy is fine, but that’s not what’s happening here.
I am outraged by reports of violent ICE kidnappings in North Hollywood. LA is not a playground for the Trump regime’s inhumane operations, and Angelenos should not have to live in fear of going to work, taking their kids to school, or living their life. If you or someone you know needs support, contact, save these numbers. Three days on the six blocks everyone in Los Angeles has an opinion about and almost nobody has visited. He went in sure it was a conspiracy. He came out with a less satisfying theory about who runs it.

I drive through here every day for work. Good thing I worked from home today, huh?
It's Groundhog Day in Karen Bass' LA. No water when you need it in the fire zones, too much water everywhere else.

The problem of the world sinking into a black morass of cynicism as we resign ourselves to the fate of the only promise the future brings being a digital panopticon of ever increasingly optimized algorithms and information while our physical surroundings remain locked in modes that have hardly changed in nearly a hundred years. The problem of not dreaming of the future.
Before praising the flying Tesla, ask yourself what problem it actually solves.

β€œHe could have solved world hunger instead of building a flying car” My brother in Christ, In 2021 the UN claimed they could solve world hunger with $6 Billion. Elon offered them the $6 Billion if they were transparent with where the funds were going. The UN never took his offer.

Sure, but there was plenty of time between the Wright Flyer and the jet airliner, yeah? Future potential excites me more than immediate practicality.

You guys put Gerwig on a pedestal despite the fact she has the sensibilities and intellect of a smug, joyless, tattooed barista. Consider shutting the fuck up.
god it’s so embarrassing that these guys present Lewis as like. a serious thinker
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
C.S. Lewis was a leading literary scholar: triple first at Oxford; Fellow & Tutor, Magdalen College, Oxford (1925–54); first Professor of Medieval & Renaissance Literature, Cambridge (1954–63); Fellow of the British Academy (1955). You can choose to be inspired by the greatness you have a front-row seat to and maybe even do something amazing of your own... Or to be the type of person who thought the Wright Brothers were crazy. Up to you.
The Tesla Roadster is like the ultimate procrastination project. You miss a deadline so you feel like you have to make the product even more impressive to justify the wait, then that takes more time so you have to make it more impressive, which takes even more time... Until eventually, a decade later, you have a car with rocket thrusters all around it that nobody will be able to use because it will be outlawed on every public road lol

β€œThere are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?” ― George Bernard Shaw
I hate to be the one to burst the Tesla bubble today, but the spectacular β€œflight” we witnessed at the Roadster reveal needs a little context. The car is carrying around 250kg of compressed air, plus the weight of the tanks, valves and thrusters needed to contain and release it. Based on the published figures, that gives it roughly 1.5–2 seconds of maximum thrust before the system needs to be refilled. In short, it's a gimmick.

Top contender for the "Miss the Point" award:
interesting how you had to completely make up a fictional scenario where Elon Musk did something for good

These are the same things that could've been solved by every major industrialist who's ever lived. Funny how none of these whiners never step up to do this themselves.
Things Elon Musk could do with $1Tn dollars: - End world hunger - Solve climate change - Provide schooling for every child - Reduce housing crisis What Elon Musk does: - Build a stupid car-toy with no practΓcal use, just to impress a bunch of idiots. Tesla Roadster should be the last straw. #EatTheRich

I'm admittedly pumped by the new Tesla Roadster while still acknowledging that it's mostly for show...for now. I'm more interested in the possibilities this tech has opened up. Musk & Co. just took a major first step towards a higher peak most thought didn't even exist.
I'm a tech optimist and enthusiast. But I gotta admit, I don't care about this. Reusable rockets? Sure. Car gimmick I'll never use? Bo and Luke did it better.
