Today I was with the youth of Alexandra with post matric qualifications at the Alexandra Kingdom Community Fellowship.
The Unisa SARCHi Research Community Outreach Programmes asked me to speak about the Gauteng Department of Social Developments programmes.
The programme is aimed at introducing the SARCHi Chair on Welfare and Social Development to the Alexandra Community and various stakeholders.
We cannot continue producing research that identifies poverty without translating that knowledge into interventions that fundamentally improve people’s lives.
Equally, we must measure the success of social development not simply by the number of food parcels distributed or beneficiaries reached, but by
the extent to which our programmes strengthen livelihoods, expand productive capacity and reduce structural vulnerability.
