After nearly two years of protests and a victory in parliamentary elections, Serbian students have returned to the streets โ this time armed with rags, brushes, and cleaning supplies. Alongside volunteers, they're removing graffiti and cleaning underpasses, walls, and public spaces.
The protest movement began after the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapsed in November 2024, killing 16 people. In the October 25 elections, the student-backed list won around 53% of the vote, while Aleksandar Vuฤiฤ acknowledged defeat.
Now, members of the movement say they want to reclaim their cities and open a new chapter in Serbia's history.
First they cleaned up politics. Now they're cleaning up the streets.
