I'm going to be doing less of Twitter for the next few months, so replies from this handle will be slow to nonexistent. For all inquiries about stethoscopes, textbooks, scrubs, wardcoats, and everything else medical related, kindly reach out to @MedPlugEtAl. Thank you ❤️

If you like, move to saner climes and keep calling your female colleagues “dear” or, as a male patient, call your female doctors “dear” instead of addressing them by their title or name. You’ll see what you’re looking for. Because tell me: would you address your male colleagues or male doctors as “dear”? Extend the same professional courtesy to women !!!

🚨Arteta on unsuccessful Dowman appeal: "Very disappointed to be fair. Especially with the reckless tackle he receives and then his reaction is minimal in relation to the action. It could have been really bad. We are lucky today he doesn't have a broken foot. That's clear."

Yuuupppp Professional sport, little margins. Come correct, or go back to school.
🚨Some important context around Arteta / Max. Important to read the full quotes. Mikel confirms there are no issues. See below ⬇️ “If you see the reaction from my mother and father with me sometimes, you’d say ‘you don’t like that reaction’ but for me it was the best reaction ever as it enabled me to be who I am. "What do you expect? That’s the level and that’s the reaction. Whether it’s right or wrong, that’s the reaction. And the reaction when I don’t win, I’m ****** off, big time. This is the environment and the reality. "I had a talk with him yesterday. There are no issues at all. I’ve done it. That’s why I’m so protective of these things and young players as we have all made these mistakes. "We know how much you can get punished. And what happens next. It’s not the first time, so we need to put an end to it very quickly."

This week the language police joined the argument. Pregnancy only feels like a death sentence, they say, and a feeling is not a fact. Fine. Let us do the English properly. In its plain sense, a death sentence is a court's order that a person be put to death. Nigeria's courts have passed one on more than 3,000 people now sitting in our prisons. None has been executed since 2016, largely because governors will not sign the warrants. Taken literally, Nigeria's own death sentence has not killed anyone in nearly a decade. Pregnancy passes no judgment and waits for no signature. About 75,000 Nigerian women died from pregnancy or childbirth in 2023, by UN estimate. That is roughly one woman every seven minutes. Tell me again which of the two is the figure of speech. To be fair, in some countries the phrase would be terrible English. Norway is one of them. Maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births (UN estimates, 2023) Norway 1 Australia 2 Germany 4 Sweden 4 UK 8 Canada 12 Cyprus 14 Egypt 17 USA 17 Malaysia 26 Libya 59 Morocco 70 Angola 183 Ghana 234 Nigeria 993 No, that last one is not a typo. Nigeria's figure is nearly a thousand times Norway's, about 250 times Sweden's and Germany's, and nearly 60 times that of the USA, the worst of the rich countries here. The African comparison is harder on us. Egypt, Libya and Morocco all sit in double figures. Ghana, down the coast, records about a quarter of ours. Angola, an oil producer like us, records about a fifth. Of the fifteen countries on that list, ours is where the phrase is least of an exaggeration. Somewhere in Nigeria, as you read this, a woman is bleeding while the language police correct the English. 🐝🐆

Let me point out that those who have chosen to miss the point do it deliberately. It is a hill they have deliberately chosen to die. A stupid hill.
My own submission to the “pregnancy is a death sentence” discourse. It wasn’t meant literally. It was said during an event, yet people are more interested in policing the language than understanding the point. It’s incredibly insensitive to bring your high moral faux pas into conversations where women are sharing the dangers of pregnancy, their traumatic experiences, and what pregnancy has cost them, especially when women has actually died from complications. We get it. You’re the better version of the “prototype woman.” You’re not like these other girls . You’re stronger, and apparently above our struggles. But sometimes, READ THE ROOM. Let women vent. Let them share their experiences, find comfort in knowing they’re not alone, bond over their struggles, and work together to find solutions to the issues that plague them.

I stumble on TikToks of people who planned for kids and i wish more people talked about it, I’m seeing couples change eating habits, embrace fitness, save for their kids expenses, intentionally move to areas with good zip codes for school sake, heck even plan what time in the year they’re conceiving, to ensure they’re born in the right timeframe for school. It’s alot of work that goes into kids!

My first was so easy, that’s why I thought I could go again. My second!!! Almost took my like..my pee was deep orange because i couldn’t even hold water down..took medications to help me eat but still couldn’t…went from 73kg to 68kg in first trimester alone..I was eating for survival because nothing was enjoyable.. thats why when people say “your kids are so beautiful, give us another one” i just want to swear for them😪
You people can talk your own, but pregnancy felt like a death sentence for me, there were days i thought i wasn’t going to survive it. I went days without eating (I love food). It felt like a death sentence! That is my own experience and it’s my reality.

This week a woman said pregnancy felt like a death sentence for her. She was told a death sentence means certain death. Now the argument has shifted, and "feels like" is allowed while "is" is bad English. Ask anyone who remembers HIV before antiretroviral drugs came to Nigeria. For years we called an HIV diagnosis a death sentence. Many lived long after theirs. The phrase described the odds, and people understood it. The odds changed in 1996, when combination therapy arrived. In Nigeria they changed from the 2000s, as treatment began reaching the people who needed it. Today we say HIV is no longer a death sentence, and we mean that too. CNN, France 24 and a US university hospital have all put the phrase in their headlines. CNN's reads "When HIV was a death sentence". The verb is "was", with no "felt like" in sight. An HIV patient picks up their drugs free at government-approved facilities. A woman in labour usually gets a bill. The emergency caesarean announced as free in 2024 covers only poor women, and only those already on national health insurance. About nine in ten Nigerians have none. About one woman still dies here for every 100 births. HIV shed the phrase when its care became free and close at hand. Give every woman in labour skilled care on the same terms, and pregnancy will shed it too. Until then, the English stands. 🐝🐆

They can be so tone deaf and insensitive. Disappoints me all the time.
I think health care professionals need to show a bit more restraint in wanting to be pedantic or 'correct' A person sharing the difficulty of their pregnancy on the social media isn't the time to be quoting all kinds of statistics they didn't ask you for

The major ill about this app is that; People don’t often have personal opinions They look at a post, check the prevailing narratives and gum body to it I am usually disappointed when I see people maintain weird positions against what I know about them over the years on this app
