1/ Here is a comprehensive review of the data on whether we need COVID BOOSTER SHOTS. THE MOST IMPORTANT TAKEAWAY: IF YOU HAVEN'T YET GOTTEN A COVID VACCINE, NOW'S THE TIME! I'll put a Threadreader unroll at the end for those of you who find that more convenient to read/share.

*New paper alert* I'm happy to share that our manuscript "Masitinib is a broad coronavirus 3CL inhibitor that blocks replication of SARS-CoV-2" is now published in @ScienceMagazine. you can find it here: science.sciencemag.org/conte…. I did a long thread for the preprint a year ago :)
1/13 Up on BioRxiv: "Drug repurposing screen identifies masitinib as a 3CLpro inhibitor that blocks replication of SARS-CoV-2 in vitro"! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… For the most coherent story - read the paper. If you want to know how it ACTUALLY came about, read this thread :)

Not only do we have vaccines that can prevent covid infections from all variants, but we also have monoclonal antibodies that can protect vs/treat all of the variants that have emerged to date cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092… New @CellCellPress

Absolutely delighted about #TWiV featuring our work on the constraints on measles antigenic evolution. Shout out to @jbloom_lab, @CellRepMed and @isabelgoldm for also giving visibility to our work.
On the latest #TWiV spillovers of porcine and canine #coronaviruses into humans in Haiti and Malaysia, how antigenic evolution of measles virus is constrained by multiple co-dominant epitopes on viral glycoproteins bit.ly/3fe9sh4

We've written a perspective on a new study by @MAMdayIndayOut that helps explain why some viruses (measles) don't evolve to escape immunity but others (influenza) do. Provides some clues relevant to future for #SARSCoV2 as well: cell.com/cell-reports-medici… Here is a recap: (1/n)

Live-attenuated measles virus (MeV) remains antigenically monotypic. Escape from serum neutralization requires elimination of at least 5 co-dominant antigenic sites in the Hemagglutinin (H)-glycoprotein. Emergence of new serotypes is highly unlikely. @MayoClinic @MAMdayIndayOut

Mayo Clinic scientists conclude in new publication that there is a near-zero probability for the natural emergence of a new measles virus capable of evading vaccine-induced immunity. Read more: mayocl.in/3sHD3UD
