I’m going to make a thread, which I will update periodically, of good books I’ve read.
First up, just finished Homo Criminalis by @MarkGaleotti.

Incredible to have over a million young people unemployed, the worst graduate market in decades, AI hitting hiring across the board and,
- continue the graduate visa, which allows hundreds of thousands of foreign graduates to essentially work in any job for up-to 3 years
- increase employer national insurance and the minimum wage, slowing hiring to a crawl and causing many businesses to fold or offshore
- be on the precipice of mass boriswave settlement, which would allow hundreds of thousands of migrants to take up any position without sponsorship
- consider allowing tens of thousands of young EU nationals into the country each year, when EU unemployment remains high
Just the worst set of policy decisions you could implement for current conditions.

The average new-build property has 130 defects, according to specialist inspection company HomeSnag.
I visited one with Tom Britton and his team to find out why so many of Britain's shiny new homes are scarcely fit for purpose.

Poundland's cost per employee change over the last 5 years is massive.
Poundland has filed to enter administration, putting 11,000 jobs at risk just weeks before Christmas, including here in Brixton.
I stand with Poundland workers and @UsdawUnion.
The owners must engage with workers and ministers, exploring every option to save jobs and shops.
Remember, green zealots in the UK are pissing themselves over Rosebank, which at its peak will produce 25m barrels... annually.
US total oil production rises for the first time above 22m b/d (crude + condy + natural gas liquids), per new monthly estimate from @EIAgov for August. That's up 301,000 b/d from the previous Aug estimate of 21.73m b/d based on weekly data. Both crude and NGLs revised up. 1/2

This is the Stratford Road in Birmingham.
For those unfamiliar with the area, it's a Pakistani enclave in the middle of the UK's 2nd city.
Every one of those pins represents a company that the Home Office has permitted to import "skilled workers".
There’s no way these interactions are real. They just can’t be.
It is absurd that City haven’t been thrown out of the domestic cups.
This company is a steal at current prices. Hold for the next 2-3 years and you’ll be laughing. In 5-10 years, who knows… #GGP
$GGP has released its September Quarterly, delivering 70,131oz Au and 2,927t Cu at AISC of A$2,925/oz. Havieron construction commenced, with the Company on track to meet FY27 gold production guidance of 260–300koz. bit.ly/4i9cimE

Mindblowing chart from OBR. In 2029 real household disposable income per person expected to be just 1% higher than in 2019. What an unbelievably awful decade. It used to grow by 2%+ every year, not 1% in 10 years.
Not content with just Pakistani grooming gangs, British politicians have imported Afghan grooming gangs.

The freeze on thresholds is scandalous, but I can't remember a frontline politician being quizzed about it.

I read a piece in the FT this week about the price of being middle class in Britain now and it said a couple earning £436,000 combined take home £216,000. That’s a crazy amount of tax, and it doesn't include VAT on purchases, council tax, stamp duty or other taxes (I think does include pension contributions). I can’t stop thinking about it.
